SSHP at UH College of Pharmacy We offer unique opportunities to UHCOP students to learn about health-system pharmacy and prepare for post-graduate residency training!

UH Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists is the student chapter of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists (ASHP), the Texas Society of Health System Pharmacists (TSHP), and the Gulf Coast Society of Health System Pharmacists (GCSHP). Our local chapter is nationally recognized by ASHP due to all our wonderful events and members! Our organization represents areas outside the traditional (retail) pharmacy environment. These areas include but are not limited to: clinical pharmacy, inpatient and outpatient clinics, hospital pharmacy administration, home infusion, academia, managed care, long-term care facilities, health maintenance organizations, etc.

Ready to invest in your professional future?

The SSHP Professional Development Training Program is designed to encourage students to go beyond the classroom by developing the skills, connections, and experiences that will help them grow as future pharmacists.

Throughout the 2026–2027 academic year, participants will complete a series of professional development, service, networking, and leadership experiences. Students who successfully complete all program requirements will earn an SSHP Professional Development Acknowledgement of Completion Award recognizing their commitment to professional growth.

Complete this form to officially register for the 2026–2027 Professional Development Program. Additional information about eligible events, attendance verification, and Acknowledgement of Completion Award progress will be shared throughout the year.

SSHP begins their specialty speaker series: Charting Your Future, where students gain exposure to a variety of health-system pharmacy disciplines to learn, grow and prepare for their future in pharmacy! At this meeting, students will have the opportunity to hear from Dr. Brittany McCoy, PharmD, BCPP, a Clinical Psychiatric Pharmacist at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas. Dr. McCoy will share her journey through pharmacy school, her career responsibilities and development and valuable lessons she has learned thus far. We hope to see you there!

SSHP is excited to announce our 17th Annual Residency Workshop! If you are considering to pursue a residency post-graduation, this is a great opportunity for you to explore what a residency is, what a resident’s day looks like, and what makes a great candidate. Join us as we hear from 2 current residents and 1 pharmacy director from the Greater Houston area!

Students will also have an opportunity to participate in our 2 activities: ASHP Residency Directory Scavenger Hunt and Residency Timeline. One lucky winner will receive a $50 Figs gift card for completing the activities!
