Capsular contracture is one of the known risks of breast implants, and over time, it can significantly change the way your breasts look and feel.

In this case, our patient believed she had a ruptured implant, but during surgery, Dr. Edward I. Lee, MD, FACS | Board Certified found severe capsular contracture on both sides. The scar tissue surrounding each implant had tightened over the years, compressing the implants, changing their shape, and causing noticeable distortion.

Capsular contracture is essentially an internal scar that forms around the implant. As it contracts, it can lead to firmness, discomfort, pain, and visible changes in the appearance of the breasts.
Dr. Lee performed a bilateral implant exchange along with a breast lift to restore a softer, more natural shape.

While breast implants are durable, we always want to remind our patients that they are not lifetime devices. We recommend maintaining regular follow-ups with your plastic surgeon and evaluating your implants over time, especially as you approach the 10-year mark. These evaluations can help identify changes before they become more significant.
