Just Another Bump in the Road - Melanoma

Just Another Bump in the Road - Melanoma In January of 2012 my husband, Steven was diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma. Our efforts are to spread melanoma awareness and save lives!! No one plans for cancer.

While the news was (and still is) devastating to our family, we have decided to take a proactive approach. Steven and I were married in September of 2006. We have 2 amazing daughters, ages 3 and 11. We are your everyday, down to earth family. Steve and I love the Saints and playing poker. Our 3 year old loves Dora and our 11 year old wants to be a teenager! Steven was diagnosed with Stage 4 melano

ma in January of 2012. We of course never thought cancer could happen to our family. No one thinks "well what will we do if one of us gets cancer". It just happens. It started with a swollen clavicular lymph node. A biopsy confirmed the diagnoses. Steven did 4 rounds of biochemo, had a major surgery to remove right adrenal gland and grapefruit sized tumor, took Zleboraf, was hospitalized for 11 days for a reaction to Zelboraf, and his latest treatment was 4 rounds of Yervoy. The most recent scans show an overall shrinkage of about 80% of his tumors (supraclavicular lymph node and lung nodule). Although this has been devastating to our family, we have decided to take a proactive approach. We try and preach to not use tanning beds, to practice sun safety, to have regular dermatologist visits, to donate blood, to donate platelets, we speaki at public events, do interviews and we try and raise money to help with melanoma research and awareness.

My husband Steve was diagnosed with Stage IV Melanoma in January of 2012. When he was diagnosed, we immediately began reading melanoma blogs to help get an idea on what to expect with treatment, treatment options, to have some hope, etc. We are hoping that our blog will offer these things to others…
