NAMI Greater Houston

NAMI Greater Houston NAMI Greater Houston envisions a healing community where all persons affected by mental illness can experience resiliency on the road to wellness.

The mission of NAMI Greater Houston is to provide advocacy, education, support and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives. NAMI Greater Houston is challenging one of the greatest unmet needs in society: Mental Illness. One in five families in any given year is touched in some way with a serious mental illness. Mental illnesses are bi

ological brain disorders. In fact, mental disorders together account for more than 15 percent of the overall burden of disease from all causes--even more than for all forms of cancer. While mental illnesses have an immense impact on individuals and families, less than half of those who suffer from these disorders seek care. The prevalence of stigma, shame and guilt are the most acknowledged reasons why many people suffer and are denied full participation in society. For many, mental illness is still a taboo topic, and is an illness that is treated as if it is unrelated to our physical well-being. Mental illness deserves the same compassion, understanding and access to treatment and support in the same manner that is given to other biological illnesses. At NAMI Greater Houston we support individuals living with mental illness and their families, and we advocate ensuring that they are treated respectfully and fairly. We envision a future where there is a well-funded community-based mental health system using proven quality treatments, and where people with mental illness are not heavily represented in the criminal justice system. We also envision a well-informed public that understands that we can change the face of mental illness through support, education and advocacy. At the heart of our efforts, we are the catalysts of change in our community and every step we take we strive to offer hope, reform and health to all Houstonians through support, education, and advocacy. We welcome you to our page and we hope that you will find the information and resources you desire, and that you will join forces with us as we stand for change! Learn More:

NAMI Greater Houston is proud to support the Black Men & Mental Health Houston Mini Awareness Conference on June 27, 2026.

This important community event will bring together local leaders, mental health professionals, faith partners, and advocates for a meaningful conversation around healing, strength, liberation, and culturally grounded support for Black menโ€™s mental health.

While this event is not hosted by NAMI Greater Houston, we are grateful to partner in the effort and will be present to share information about NAMI programs, resources, and support available to individuals and families in our community.

Join us for a day of awareness, education, and connection as we work together to reduce stigma, strengthen support systems, and build a healthier mental health ecosystem.

NAMICon 2026 was a powerful reminder that hope, advocacy, and innovation are transforming the future of mental health.
From groundbreaking research and new NAMI programming to inspiring conversations about advocacy and community impact, the conference challenged us to think bigger and act bolder for those affected by mental health conditions.

One of the most memorable moments was the announcement of Dr. Ken Duckworth's retirement. His decades of leadership, compassion, and unwavering commitment to mental health have shaped NAMI and touched countless lives across the nation.

I leave NAMICon energized, inspired, and more committed than ever to ensuring that no one faces a mental health journey alone.
