What comes after 1,000 robotic heart surgeries? More questions.

Every procedure creates an opportunity to learn, refine our approach and better understand how robotic cardiac surgery can continue to evolve. Recent research from our team has examined several areas of robotic and minimally invasive cardiac surgery, including outcomes and hospital costs following robotic mitral valve repair, techniques to improve robotic coronary bypass surgery, robotic valve surgery in complex patients, and new approaches to left atrial appendage management.

These studies reflect an important part of our work that happens beyond the operating room. Surgical experience allows us to improve the care of the patient in front of us. Research gives us an opportunity to share what we learn, evaluate our techniques and contribute to the continued advancement of the field.

The number itself is significant. But what matters most is what 1,000 robotic heart surgeries represent. Over the years, we've learned that successful outcomes depend on more than technology. A successful operation is not defined solely by what happens in the operating room. It is measured by how well a patient recovers, returns home, regains independence, and gets back to the people and activities they love. That perspective influences every step of the process, from patient selection and surgical planning to postoperative care and recovery.
Innovation matters because it helps us improve the patient experience while maintaining exceptional outcomes. The goal is not simply to perform a complex procedure.
