We’ve had five Zoom calls and a full weekend together, and somehow it already feels like family. She’s written us poems and letters that were honestly profound—wise, emotional, and full of depth beyond her years.

What moves me most is this: after walking through more hardship than most adults ever will, she still smiles. She still jokes. She still hopes. She still believes in people. And despite everything, she still wants a family. If that isn’t resilience—if that isn’t restored trust—I don’t know what is.

Swipe fast for judo!

Huge thank you to professor Ami

The love you have for teaching us is palpable. It makes class so much fun.

Judo is interesting in that it necessitates precision AND speed. In most things in life, you can move slow and precise and make progress. In judo, you HAVE TO get to a place of such high skill acquisition that you no longer think, you only do.

For a movement nerd like me, it’s a huge challenge.

Here’s something honest.
I overthink a lot. I get in my own way more than I care to admit. I went through a long stretch of the “blue belt blues”—seeing all my weaknesses and flaws surface through the process. I’ve wrestled with imposter syndrome, the feeling of “I’m not ready for the next belt… I don’t deserve it.”

I’ve had a few tournament wins—and some humbling losses right after.

I’ve learned that big guys, small guys—it doesn’t matter. Anyone can beat you with enough grit, technique, and heart.

Here’s the bottom line:
I don’t think I’ve ever actually felt ready for anything. But I’ve come to realize that fear is a liar—it’s just False Evidence Appearing Real.

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
—Joshua 1:9

And most of all — thank you to my teammates.
I’ve learned through you, lost to you, struggled with you, and grown because of you. There’s no way to improve in this sport—or in life—without iron sharpening iron. I’m grateful for every round, every correction, every push when I didn’t think I had more to give. You’ve helped shape me, not just as a grappler, but as a man.

Tomorrow is Mother’s Day—a day to honor the beauty, strength, and love of motherhood. And while my wife Jackie was absolutely born to be a mom, our story has looked different.

Though she’s a joyful dog mom, I know the quiet longings of her heart.

What many don’t see is how she shows up for others’ children—celebrating baby showers, birthdays, milestones—with so much love. She gives her heart, her presence, her prayers, and her joy. She could turn inward. She could hide her sorrow. But she doesn’t.

She chooses to love anyway.

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18

Tomorrow, the world celebrates mothers.

Happy birthday

The most impressive thing to look back on has been your desire to grow. You’ve challenged yourself in so many aspects of life and I’m so proud to stand next to you.

The reality is… it wasn’t all rainbows and cupcakes. Growth is painful yet you still stepped into it.

It’s been amazing to see the work you put in.

❗exercise when it’s easy to lie on the couch
❗praying and meditating daily
❗focusing on internal processing
❗️eating real food
❗️reflecting on your own actions

These things are not “ sexy” according to the culture.

These are the real things that need to get done…. This is the hard stuff.

I cannot wait to see you become a mother. Lord willing, it will be in the very near future.

Amazing trip with my partner in crime . Paris and London. Paris to celebrate and his lovely wife Alex.
