Hoodoo Humpday: The Raw Egg Ritual πŸ₯š

Few Hoodoo practices are as well-known, misunderstood, or debated as the raw egg ritual.

Some people see it as superstition.

Others see it as a spiritual diagnostic tool.

For generations, people across various traditions have used eggs in cleansing and uncrossing work because of what the egg symbolizes:

✨ Life

✨ Absorption

✨ Renewal

✨ Spiritual cleansing

In many traditions, a raw egg is passed over the body while prayers are spoken. The belief is that the egg can absorb spiritual heaviness, negativity, crossed conditions, or stagnant energy.

Afterward, the egg is broken into a glass of water and examined.

The shapes, bubbles, strings, cloudiness, and appearance are then interpreted according to the tradition being practiced.

Now before somebody starts arguing in the comments... 😏

An egg is still an egg.

What you're looking at is symbolism, ritual, prayer, observation, and tradition.

The real power has never been in the shell.

The power has always been in the intention, the prayer, and the spiritual work behind it.

What makes this practice fascinating is that versions of egg cleansing appear in cultures all over the world.

Different people.

Different languages.

Different traditions.

Yet many arrived at remarkably similar ideas.

πŸ₯š Collective Message

Sometimes you've been carrying something so long that it starts to feel normal.

Stress.

Bitterness.

Exhaustion.

Fear.

Heavy energy.

Whether through prayer, meditation, cleansing, reflection, or spiritual work, every now and then you need to check what you've been carrying.

Not everything belongs to you.

And not everything is meant to stay with you.

Medical Monday: Onions, Colds, and Hoodoo πŸ§…

Before medicine cabinets were packed with cold remedies, many folks reached for what they already had in the kitchen.

One of those remedies?

The humble onion.

For generations, onions have appeared in folk medicine traditions throughout the South, including Hoodoo. Some elders swore by placing sliced onions near the bed of someone battling a cold. Others kept onions in rooms during flu season, believing they could absorb sickness and help protect the household.

Now before somebody throws their cough syrup at me... 😏

Modern science does not support the idea that onions literally absorb viruses or cure colds.

But that doesn't mean the tradition is without value.

Our ancestors lived in a time when access to doctors and medicine wasn't always guaranteed. They learned to observe nature, use what was available, and pass down practical knowledge from one generation to the next.

In Hoodoo, onions have also been associated with:

✨ Protection

✨ Cleansing

✨ Drawing away negativity

✨ Removing unwanted influences

✨ Spiritual uncrossing

Their strong smell, layered structure, and ability to make you cry gave them symbolic power that extended beyond the kitchen.

Whether you view the practice as folk medicine, spiritual tradition, or ancestral wisdom, the lesson remains the same:

Our people learned how to survive with what they had.

And that's worth remembering.

πŸ§… Collective Message

Not every tradition needs to be mocked simply because it's old.

Sometimes traditions tell us less about the remedy and more about the resilience of the people who carried it forward.

Honor the wisdom.

Honor the resourcefulness.

Honor the ancestors who made a way with what was available.

Soulful Sunday: The Black Church & Hoodoo

When Did They Separate?

Here's a question most folks never ask:

If Hoodoo was so evil, why did so many church-going Black folks practice it?

Think about it.

Many of our grandparents and great-grandparents sat in church on Sunday morning...

And kept protective herbs, Bible verses, spiritual baths, dream books, and prayer work at home.

Some carried High John roots.

Some swept their porches a certain way.

Some read Psalms for protection.

Some knew exactly what to do when somebody sent bad energy their way.

So when did the split happen?

The answer is...

It wasn't immediate.

For generations, Hoodoo and Christianity often existed side by side in Black communities.

Enslaved Africans brought spiritual knowledge from their homelands and blended it with the Christianity they encountered in America.

The Bible became a spiritual tool.

Especially the Book of Psalms.

Prayer became power.

Scripture became protection.

Faith and folk practice often worked together.

The larger separation began as Black churches became more institutionalized and sought greater social acceptance.

Practices associated with folk spirituality, rootwork, conjure, and Hoodoo increasingly became labeled as superstition, backwardness, or something respectable Christians should avoid.

But the truth is more complicated than that.

Because many of the same people condemning Hoodoo publicly were still calling on old traditions privately.

The language changed.

The practices often remained.

That's why you'll still hear elders talk about praying Psalms over a situation.

You'll hear warnings about certain kinds of energy.

You'll hear stories about signs, dreams, ancestors, and spiritual protection.

Pieces of those traditions never fully disappeared.

They simply became quieter.

πŸŒ™ Collective Reflection

Maybe the real question isn't when they separated.

Maybe the question is why we're told the story as if they were never connected in the first place.

Phucc It Friday: Grits In Hoodoo 🍚πŸ”₯

Before grits became a breakfast side dish, they were survival.

Long before they showed up next to shrimp in a fancy restaurant, grits were helping families make it through hard times.

A bag of grits could stretch.

It could feed a house full of people.

It could turn "we don't have much" into "everybody ate."

That's why I find it funny when folks talk about prosperity like it only comes wrapped in luxury.

Because our ancestors understood something many of us have forgotten.

Prosperity isn't always about having more.

Sometimes it's about making enough last.

Sometimes it's about knowing how to take what you have and multiply its usefulness.

Sometimes it's about resourcefulness.

A pot of grits on the stove represented more than food.

It represented provision.

It represented resilience.

It represented the determination to keep going regardless of what circumstances looked like.

That's Hoodoo.

Not because the grits themselves are magical.

But because the lesson is.

The old folks knew how to create abundance where others only saw lack.

They knew how to survive.

They knew how to stretch.

They knew how to build.

And they knew how to give thanks for what they had while working toward what they wanted.

That's a spiritual lesson a lot of people could benefit from today.

🍚 Collective Message:

Stop measuring blessings by how impressive they look.

Some of the things that carried you through your hardest seasons weren't glamorous.

They were necessary.

And that's exactly what made them valuable.

Sometimes the blessing isn't the feast.

Sometimes the blessing is having enough to make another meal.

Taste Test Tuesday: Some Like It Hot πŸ”₯ Some Like It Spicy πŸ˜‹
Red Candle Collective Pull πŸŒΆοΈπŸ•―οΈ
Let's speak honestly...
This week's collective pull is bringing Red Candle energy.
And Red Candle doesn't whisper.
It moves.
It pursues.
It desires.
It acts.
Whether we're talking about love, passion, confidence, courage, attraction, ambition, or motivation, this card shows up when something is trying to get your attention and refuses to be ignored.
πŸ”₯ A spark becomes a flame.
πŸ”₯ A crush becomes a confession.
πŸ”₯ An idea becomes a business.
πŸ”₯ A dream becomes a plan.
πŸ”₯ A maybe becomes a decision.
The message this week?
Stop waiting for permission to want what you want.
Too many people spend their lives cooling themselves down to make others comfortable.
The ancestors didn't give you passion so you could hide it.
They gave it to you so you could use it.
Now before somebody gets carried away...
Red Candle energy isn't just about romance.
It's about life force.
It's about momentum.
It's about finally putting action behind the things you've been talking about.
Because desire without action is just daydreaming.
And Spirit seems to be saying:
"You've thought about it long enough."
❀️ Collective Message:
What's calling to you?
What's exciting you?
What's making your heart race a little?
That's where your attention needs to be.
Not every fire is meant to be extinguished.
Some are meant to be fed.

πŸŒ™ Soulful Sunday: High John The Conqueror Wasn't Always Honest About It

Let's speak honestly.

Everybody loves the victory.

Few people study the strategy.

High John the Conqueror is often talked about as a root of luck, success, power, confidence, and overcoming obstacles.

And he is.

But the stories surrounding High John tell us something else too.

High John was a trickster.

A survivor.

A master of reading the room.

He understood that not every battle is won with force.

Some are won with timing.

Some are won with intelligence.

Some are won by letting your opponent underestimate you.

The lesson isn't to become deceitful.

The lesson is to become discerning.

Know when to speak.

Know when to stay silent.

Know when to move.

Know when to wait.

Know when everyone doesn't need access to your plans.

Sometimes wisdom looks a lot like strategy.

And sometimes strategy looks a lot like survival.

Today's reminder:

Stop announcing every move before you've made it.

Not everybody needs a front-row seat to what Spirit is building in your life.

Move quietly.

Pray deeply.

Win respectfully.

🌿 High John didn't conquer because life was easy.

He conquered because he learned how to navigate difficult situations without losing himself.

What's growing in the dark doesn't need validation from the light.

Phucc It Friday: Buss It or Miss It?

Let's be honest. πŸ‘€ Some folks keep asking ancestors for signs while ignoring red flags waving directly in their face.

The chemistry, attraction, and late-night conversations might be there. But is the character there? That's the real question.

Too many are making permanent decisions based on temporary feelings, then acting surprised when things turn into a lesson instead of a blessing. Before giving someone access to your body, ask yourself:

✨ Do they respect me?
✨ Do they support my growth?
✨ Do they bring peace or confusion?
✨ Would I still want them around if intimacy was off the table?

Attraction can get your attention, but character determines if they deserve your access.

Tonight's collective message: Stop confusing desire with destiny. Just because you want it doesn't mean it's good for you. And just because it's available doesn't mean it belongs to you.

Sometimes, the strongest flex is knowing when to walk away.

πŸ‘€ Buss It... or Miss It? Drop your answer below.

Thuggin It Thursday: You Dressed The Candle, Laid The Herbs, Said The Words... And Nothing

This one is going to hit a nerve.

Everybody wants to be a conjure worker until it's time to confront the possibility that the spell didn't fail... You did. Not because you're cursed. Not because somebody crossed you. Not because Mercury is in retrograde doing cartwheels.

Sometimes nothing happened because:

πŸ•―οΈ You asked for abundance but kept spending like lack.
πŸ•―οΈ You asked for love but still entertain people you know aren't for you.
πŸ•―οΈ You asked for protection but keep opening the door to the same chaos.
πŸ•―οΈ You asked your ancestors for guidance then ignored every sign they sent.

The candle can only amplify what you're willing to do in the physical.
Hoodoo has always been a working tradition. Notice the word: WORK.

The roots work. The herbs work. The spirits work.
The question is...
Are you working too? Because sometimes the spell isn't waiting on Spirit. Spirit is waiting on you.

Hoodoo Humpday: Doing The Humpty Hump Before Marriage and Protecting Against Negative Soul Ties πŸ˜πŸ•―οΈ

Let's talk about it.

Whether you believe intimacy creates a spiritual connection or not, most folks can admit this: not everybody leaves your life when they leave your bed.

Some people walk away physically but somehow still linger in your thoughts, emotions, habits, confidence, decision-making, and energy years later.

That's where the conversation about soul ties comes in.

In Hoodoo, spiritual hygiene is just as important as physical hygiene. You wouldn't let everyone move into your house, so why give everyone unrestricted access to your spirit?

A healthy connection should leave you feeling: ✨ Supported
✨ Clear-minded
✨ Empowered
✨ At peace

An unhealthy connection often leaves: ⚠️ Obsession
⚠️ Emotional confusion
⚠️ Constant arguments
⚠️ Difficulty moving forward
⚠️ Feeling drained after every interaction

Now before somebody starts clutching their pearls, this isn't about shame.

People are going to make their own choices. That's life.

This is about understanding that every connection comes with an exchange. Energy, emotions, intentions, habits, and sometimes baggage get exchanged too.

If you're choosing intimacy before marriage, be just as intentional about spiritual protection as you are about physical protection.

Tonight's Hoodoo reminder:

πŸ•―οΈ Pray over yourself.
πŸ•―οΈ Cleanse regularly.
πŸ•―οΈ Pay attention to how people affect your spirit.
πŸ•―οΈ Stop reconnecting with folks your ancestors already helped you escape.

Because sometimes the blessing isn't finding somebody new.

Sometimes the blessing is finally cutting the cord to somebody old.
