Start with *De Mojo Blues* — a Vietnam veteran, the blues, and Hoodoo braided into one story. Flowers wrote the way the old folks talked: rhythm, rootwork, and truth in the same breath. He understood that the novel could be a conjure — words arranged to move something in the reader.

Black storytelling is Hoodoo preservation. When the history books left us out, the writers wrote us back in. Reed on Day 10, Flowers today, Hurston coming on Day 28 — this month is building you a shelf.

# # Day 18 — Pray Psalm 23

Day 18: pray Psalm 23 — under a First Quarter moon.

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want." You know it. But today, pray it slow — the way somebody's grandmother did over a fever, a court date, a front door. Verse by verse. Mean the words.

In many Hoodoo traditions, the Psalms are living prayer: language for protection, comfort, courage, deliverance. The power was never in racing through a verse like a password. It was relationship — knowing what you're asking, praying with focus, living in alignment after the amen.

First Quarter tonight: half lit, building. Good night for momentum. Pray the Psalm, then move like you believe it.

# # Day 17 — Take a Spiritual Bath

Day 17: take a spiritual bath.

In many traditions, the bath is cleansing you can feel: warm water, a handful of salt, skin-safe herbs like hyssop, rosemary, or basil. Pray as you pour the water over yourself — out loud or silent, your words. Rinse from head down, washing the week off with intention.

This isn't luxury. It's maintenance. The women who raised us knew the difference between a bath that relaxes you and a bath that resets you.

Light a white candle nearby. Never leave it unattended. Step out lighter than you stepped in.

# # Day 16 — DIY Florida Water

Day 16: DIY Florida Water — the cologne in almost every rootworker's cabinet. Citrus, lavender, clove. Used to cleanse hands before work, wipe down altars, add to floor washes, dab on the neck before walking into a room you need peace in.

Make a simple version: citrus peels, a little lavender, clove, in a base you already trust — let it sit, strain it, use it for space and surfaces. (External use and space only — do not ingest, and patch-test skin first.)

Aesthetic knowledge says, "This herb is for protection." Responsible knowledge asks, "According to whom, prepared how, and is it safe for this body and this home?"

Do not ingest an herb because a short video gave it a spiritual correspondence. Check credible safety information and consult a qualified clinician when health, pregnancy, medication, allergies, children, or pets are involved.

Traditions don't survive by accident. They survive because somebody keeps them. 🔥

Hoodoo made it through slavery, through Jim Crow, through every attempt to shame it out of us — because grandmothers kept whispering, root doctors kept working, and somebody always remembered.

Now it's your turn. Learn it right. Practice it with respect. Pass it on cleaner than you found it.

That's what heritage means. Not looking back — carrying forward.

The Book of Psalms has been worked as scripture AND spellbook for generations — the 23rd for protection, the 51st for cleansing, whole psalms read over candles and curios to fuel the work.

Our people took what was given to them and made it their own. That's not contradiction — that's genius.

The world is heavy right now. That's not a reason to be afraid — it's a reason to be covered.

Everything you need, the earth already grew. 🌱

Rootwork is the heart of Hoodoo — working with roots, herbs, and natural curios the way our people always have. High John root for strength. Angelica for protection. Basil for money drawing.

This isn't about buying the most expensive curios. It's about relationship — knowing the root, respecting where it came from, working it with clear intention.

The old ones didn't have metaphysical shops. They had the woods, the garden, and knowing.
