Your heart doesn’t need a gym membership.

A brisk walk with a friend. A bike ride around the neighborhood. Dancing to a few favorite songs.

Staying active supports your heart health, and there are plenty of ways to do it outside the gym. Start with something you enjoy and make time for it regularly.

What’s your favorite way to get moving?

Heart health is about more than one number.

Blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, weight, lifestyle and family history can all play a role in your cardiovascular risk.

At the Texas Cardiology Associates Cardiometabolic Clinic, we take a comprehensive approach to understanding these factors and creating a plan built around your individual health.

You can feel perfectly healthy and still have high cholesterol.

That's why knowing your numbers matters.

A lipid panel measures LDL, HDL and triglycerides to help your healthcare provider better understand your cardiovascular risk. Along with factors like blood pressure, family history and lifestyle, these numbers help create a clearer picture of your heart health.

September is Cholesterol Education Month. Consider it your reminder to know your numbers.

September is Peripheral Artery Disease Awareness Month.

PAD occurs when narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to the legs and feet. One of the most common signs? Leg pain or cramping that starts with activity and improves with rest.

Other symptoms can include:
• Leg weakness or numbness
• Coldness in one foot or leg
• Slow-healing sores
• Changes in skin color
• A weak pulse in the legs or feet

If walking regularly causes pain in your calves, thighs or hips, don't assume it's simply part of getting older. A cardiovascular evaluation can help determine whether circulation is the cause.

National Wellness Month may be coming to an end, but taking care of your heart doesn’t stop here.

The habits that support cardiovascular health are built over time: staying active, prioritizing sleep, managing stress, keeping up with preventive care and understanding your personal risk factors.

You don’t have to change everything at once. Choose one thing you can continue into September and build from there.

Your heart will thank you. ❤️

Who needs a stress test? ❤️

Dr. Almahmoud breaks down when a stress test may be recommended and how it can help your care team understand how your heart performs when it’s working harder.

From evaluating symptoms like chest pain or shortness of breath to assessing your risk for heart disease, a stress test can provide important insight into your heart health.

If you’re experiencing symptoms or have concerns about your cardiovascular risk, talk with your cardiologist about whether a stress test may be right for you.

Heart-healthy habits don’t have to be complicated.

This weekend, try starting with a few simple choices:

❤️ Take a 20-minute walk
🥗 Add a fiber-rich food to your plate
💧 Stay hydrated throughout the day
😴 Give yourself enough time for quality sleep
🧘 Take 10 minutes to slow down and decompress

National Wellness Month is a reminder that taking care of your heart isn’t about being perfect. It’s about the small choices you make consistently.
