I ALMOST MISSED IT.

Several months ago, I received a prophetic word concerning grants: “Apply and accept.”

So I applied.

And applied.

And applied.

And received NO. NO. NO.

Then about a week and a half ago, an email showed up in an account I rarely use saying my nonprofit had been awarded a grant.

I ignored it.

I didn’t recognize the sender.
I hadn’t applied for the grant.
And when they asked for banking information to deposit the award, I REALLY thought, SCAM!

Then another email came: Accept your award by the deadline.

Something told me to look deeper.

So I researched.

It was LEGIT.

But here’s what got me…

I NEVER APPLIED FOR THIS GRANT.

A friend Elisha Divinity Weatherton recommended my organization.

People I didn’t know reviewed it.

People I had never met voted.

And my nonprofit was selected to receive the grant.

That’s when the revelation hit me:

I almost missed the blessing because it didn’t look like what I was expecting.

The word was, “Apply and accept.”

I assumed I would be accepting something I applied for.

But that was never said.

I kept applying in obedience while God was putting my name on tables I wasn’t sitting at.

Your “no” doesn’t mean God said no.

Rejection in one room doesn’t mean your name isn’t being discussed in another.

Sometimes obedience is simply proof that you trust God enough to keep moving when you don’t understand what He’s doing or how He’s doing it.

I was applying over here while God was speaking my name over there.

So keep applying.
Keep showing up.
Keep obeying.

And when the blessing comes…

DON’T MISS IT JUST BECAUSE IT DOESN’T LOOK LIKE WHAT YOU EXPECTED!

God may answer the prayer without following the plan you created for Him.

Obey the instruction. Trust the process. And be ready to ACCEPT.

I trust that God isn’t done!

I cried in an interview this week.

For the last three months, my business has faced obstacle after obstacle. Financial strain. Staffing changes. Hard decisions.

But through it all, God keeps showing up.

Back in June, I started fasting specifically for my business. My prayer has been:

God, give me discernment. Send the right people, help me recognize them, and give me wisdom for the decisions I have to make.

This week, I interviewed a promising candidate. She had a certification, but not the specific one required by the state for our program.

I almost didn’t continue the interview.

I’m so glad I did.

The required training costs about $500. Because of previous experiences and the financial strain on my business, I no longer routinely pay for this training.

She asked, “Would you be willing to pay half?”

Then I remembered.

Months ago, a team member resigned immediately after I had already purchased this same training. I still had the unused credit.

I told her, “I won’t pay half. I’ll cover it all.”

She cried and shared she prayed for favor in this interview the night before.

What she couldn’t see was that I was crying too.

I knew this was one of the moments I had been fasting and praying for.

I hired her on the spot, something I rarely do.

Later this week, I had to make the difficult decision to release a team member who could no longer meet the requirements of her role.

Guess who was already positioned to step in?

The woman I almost didn’t interview.

Sometimes what looks like a setback is actually God preparing provision for something you haven’t encountered yet.

Systems matter. Processes matter. But so does discernment.

The storm may be real.

But so is His grace. 🙏🏾

Expansion across Texas is the goal! ❤️

This past weekend, C.O.P.E. Behavioral Health had the opportunity to participate in a wonderful community event at The Belleview, in Dallas, Texas. We enjoyed connecting with families, community members, and others who share our commitment to strengthening the communities we serve.

C.O.P.E. Behavioral Health is currently providing services in the Houston, Austin, and Dallas areas—and we’re continuing to grow! Our goal is to expand our reach across the state of Texas, ensuring that more children and families have access to quality, community-based behavioral health services.

Every new community connection brings us one step closer to that goal.

Houston. Austin. Dallas. And we’re not done yet!

Transforming obstacles into stepping stones—one community at a time. ❤️

Sometimes we ask God to change our circumstances when He’s trying to change us.

The Bible is full of people whose greatest breakthroughs were preceded by seasons of discomfort. God used uncertainty to redirect them, difficulty to strengthen them, and transition to prepare them for something greater.

If you’re in an uncomfortable season, don’t rush to ask, “God, when will this be over?”

Instead ask,

“God, what are You trying to teach me?”

He may be shifting you.
He may be doing something new.
He may be sharpening your focus.
He may be strengthening your faith.
He may be calling you out of comfort.
He may be waiting on your obedience.

Whatever He’s doing…

Trust Him.

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” — Isaiah 43:19

A true friend is committed to calling you out.

Recently, a friend did something that had me feeling some type of way. Instead of stuffing it, assuming it was intentional, holding onto it, or pretending I wasn’t bothered, I chose to address it.

Not because I love conflict, but because I’ve learned that avoiding conflict often voids connection.

Over time, I’ve realized that healthy friendships are not built on silence. They’re built on honesty. True friends are willing to call each other out, not to point fingers, assign blame, or “win” an argument, but to gain understanding, create clarity, and leave room for reconciliation.

So I had the conversation. We talked it through, got to the root of the misunderstanding, gained perspective, and moved forward.

Can I encourage those of you who, like me, sometimes prefer to avoid conflict? Be committed to addressing things with the people you love. So many relationships end not because the issue was too big, but because the person who was hurt never found the courage to communicate their hurt.

At the same time, we must also be committed to receiving correction. We have to be willing to listen, acknowledge our part, take responsibility when necessary, and make adjustments.

Healthy relationships require both courage and humility.

Let’s stop avoiding difficult conversations and start having honest ones. We will be better together because of it.

Don’t Quit!

Two years ago today, I turned in my 30-day resignation notice to step into full-time entrepreneurship and fully pursue the vision God placed in my heart through my behavioral health, mental health, and social services company, C.O.P.E.

What I thought would be a graceful transition quickly turned into uncertainty. Instead of working out my notice period, I was called into a meeting with over 200 employees and informed that we were being laid off effective immediately on May 15th.

The truth is… God had already been dealing with me about leaving. But fear kept me holding on.

Fear of not having guaranteed income.
Fear of not having insurance as a single mom and recent divorcee.
Fear of stepping out into the unknown.

I was also chasing promotions at my previous job. I was more than qualified, yet I kept hearing “no.”

Then one day it hit me:
Maybe the reason I kept receiving “no’s” was because I was seeking approval in a place where God never intended for me to stay.

Over these last two years, entrepreneurship has not been easy. There have been moments when I truly did not know how payroll would be covered. There were uphill battles with insurance claims and reimbursements owed to the company. There were stressful days, exhausting nights, and moments that tested my faith.

But through it all:
Not one bill has gone unpaid.
Not one employee has missed payroll.
And the company is still standing.

So today, I want to encourage someone:

Don’t quit.
Don’t give up on the vision.
Don’t allow fear to keep you stuck in places you’ve already outgrown.

Trust God. Trust the process. And know that if He called you to it, He will bring you through it.

The journey may not be easy, but purpose is always worth pursuing. 💜
