Summer break is coming and the transition from structure to freedom can be hard on your family's nervous systems. Here's how to prep for a great summer. 🌞❤️
You'd think less structure = less stress. But for many families, summer creates MORE dysregulation:
Kids: Sudden routine loss, sleep chaos, more screens, boredom meltdowns, sibling conflicts
Parents: Kids home all day, disrupted work, planning stress, no break from parenting
Prep your family's nervous system for summer:
1. Get everyone adjusted before summer starts and through summer
Kids are carrying nine months of academic stress, sitting in chairs all day, and minimal outdoor play. Getting them adjusted will help to release accumulated stress and start their summer with a clean slate.
Parents are carrying stress from the hectic school schedule, an increased mental load, and sleep deprivation from changing schedules. Getting adjusted can help you shift into summer mode instead of staying stuck in survival.
2. Create summer rhythm (not rigid schedule)
Your nervous system needs predictable patterns:
✅ Consistent wake/sleep times (later is fine, just consistent)
✅ Meal rhythm
✅ Daily outdoor time
✅ Screen-free times
✅ Wind-down before bed
3. Prioritize movement & nature for a nervous system reset
After nine months of sitting and screens, summer is a chance to breathe through movement and nature.
Movement in nature helps to: Activate your parasympathetic nervous system, improve sleep, reduce cortisol, improve mood, and build resilience
Daily activities: Swimming, biking, running, hiking, beach days, unstructured outdoor play. Goal: 30+ minutes daily.
4. Maintain chiropractic care through summer
Summer is IDEAL for chiropractic:
✓ Active bodies need support (swimming, biking, climbing)
✓ Travel stress affects NS (car rides, flying, schedule disruption)
✓ Growth spurts happen in summer
✓ Preparing for next school year
Summer Nervous System Prep Checklist:
☑️ Get everyone adjusted before school ends
☑️ Create summer rhythm (not rigid schedule)

☑️ Maintain chiropractic care
☑️ Plan downtime (boredom is okay)
☑️ Stay hydrated
☑️ Keep bedtime rhythm
Summer should rejuvenate your family's nervous systems, not deplete them further.
Prep now. Regulate through summer. Start fall thriving.
