The theme for week 3 of Mental Health Awareness Month: Words Matter and Words Can Heal

The language we use matters, not only when talking about mental health struggles, but also in our day to day interactions. Slowing down to put ourselves in another person's position can help to shift our perspective, our feelings, and the words that we use to foster compassion for others and reduce stigma surrounding mental health struggles.

We are each impacted by mental health, whether personally, or indirectly through a friend, family member, or colleague. Committing to talking about mental health with care and compassion helps people to feel seen, heard, and respected.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month!

The theme for this week focuses on mental health awareness for children. Parents and caregivers are often the first ones to notice when something seems different. Sometimes the most important thing you can do is to listen without judgement and make sure the young person in your life feels truly heard and understood.

Open conversations build trust and resilience.

Today is World Maternal Mental Health Day!

Women of every culture, age, income level and race can develop perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, with symptoms that can appear at any time during pregnancy and in the 12 months after childbirth.

The perinatal period can be a time of immense joy but also can be a time of great stress, uncertainty, and anxiety, with numerous factors that can impact the experience surrounding pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, and complications that can arise at any point during this process.

Increasing awareness surrounding maternal mental health is essential to reduce stigma and so individuals who are struggling can be identified and connected to help, as there are several safe and evidence-based treatments available to address maternal mental illness. Untreated maternal mental illness impacts the individual, the child, and the family unit as a whole.

Let's come together on Maternal Mental Health Day to bolster and support the moms in our lives!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month!

Mental Health is a part of everyday life. It impacts every single one of us and shapes how we think, feel, connect with others, and navigate the world.

Mental illnesses are medical conditions involving changes in emotion, appetite, thinking, or behavior that can affect daily functioning. Serious mental illness can substantially interfere with major life activities, including work, school, relationships, and self-care. Economic instability, housing insecurity, unemployment, and limited access to healthcare can increase stress and worsen mental health conditions. Early support, including access to stable housing, employment assistance, healthcare, and community programs, improves long-term stability and well-being.
