June is Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month.
Not all wounds are visible. PTSD can affect anyone—not just military veterans. It can develop after experiences such as sexual assault, childhood abuse, serious accidents, natural disasters, medical trauma, violence, or witnessing traumatic events.
While trauma is common, not everyone who experiences trauma develops PTSD. However, for those who do, PTSD can have a significant impact on daily life, relationships, and overall well-being. The good news is that effective treatments are available, and many people experience meaningful improvement with appropriate care and support.
Did you know?
• Women are about twice as likely as men to develop PTSD, with approximately 8% of women experiencing PTSD during their lifetime.
• Veterans remain one of the populations most affected by PTSD due to combat exposure, military sexual trauma, and other service-related experiences. About 7% of U.S. veterans will experience PTSD during their lifetime.
This month, let's raise awareness, reduce stigma, and support those living with the lasting effects of trauma.
