I’m excited to share that I’ve been awarded a scholarship to attend Realizing Release, a national convening hosted by the National Parole Transformation Project, a project of the MacArthur Justice Center, November 14–15 in Chicago!

This two-day gathering will bring together advocates, experts, and community members from across the country to discuss parole advocacy, parole transformation, and the ongoing work to create a more just and effective criminal legal system.

For me, this opportunity is especially meaningful.

Through On The Way Home, we work every day with individuals and families navigating the realities of incarceration, parole, release planning, and reentry in Alabama. I’m looking forward to learning from others doing this work across the country, sharing what we are seeing here in Alabama, and bringing new ideas, relationships, and strategies home to strengthen the work we are building.

I’m incredibly grateful to the MacArthur Justice Center and the National Parole Transformation Project for providing scholarship support for my travel and lodging and making it possible for me to participate.

Every opportunity to learn, connect, and bring Alabama into these national conversations helps us move one step closer to building a stronger reentry system for the individuals and families we serve.

Chicago, I’ll see you in November!

💙 A small way to make a BIG difference…

I wanted to share an easy way to support the work we're doing at On The Way Home.

OTWH has a charity profile through Walmart where you can shop our wish list for items we need OR select us as your nonprofit for Walmart Round Up. When you round up your purchases, those few cents go directly toward helping us serve individuals and families impacted by incarceration.

We work hard to make sure people coming home have more than encouragement—they need real resources, support, and a community willing to help them get back on their feet.

If you're able to help, even something small makes a difference. And if you can't donate right now, sharing this post helps too! ❤️

Thank you to everyone who continues to believe in what we're building. We're working every day to make the road home a little easier. 💙

Awesome new song I found.

Look at these lyrics:

I was a felon
You were a dream
I was a broken man running from my past
Until you captured me
I was a heathen
I was a fiend
I was a stranger to the righteous way
Until you rescued me
When I thought I was worthless
Too far gone to deserve it
You loved the hell out of me
Taught me how to believe
When I had lost all hope
You showed me God redeems
'Cause you loved the hell out of me
When no one else could see
A piece of me worth loving
You loved the hell out of me
I remember
When we drove to maine
Eating lobster, I was feeling rich
I couldn't help but think
It felt like heaven
Smiling down on me
'Cause everything I ever wanted was sittin
Right in front of me
When I thought I was worthless
Too far gone to deserve it
You loved the hell out of me
Taught me how to believe
When I had lost all hope
You showed me God redeems
'Cause you loved the hell out of me
When no one else could see
A piece of me worth loving
You loved the hell out of me
You pulled this sinner from the flame
You didn't just watch and let me burn
You told me I'm loved and I deserve more than I could ever earn
And if you ever fall astray, I promise you I'll always stay
To show you love and extend the grace you did for me
When I was ashamed
When I thought I was worthless
Too far gone to deserve it
You loved the hell out of me
Taught me how to believe
When I had lost all hope
You loved the hell out of me
When no one else could see
A piece of me worth loving
You loved the hell out of me
So when you feel like you're worthless
Too far gone to deserve it
I'll love you like heaven
'Cause you loved the hell out of me

🏆 OTWH HAS EARNED THE 2026 CANDID PLATINUM SEAL OF TRANSPARENCY!

We are proud to share that On The Way Home has earned the Candid Platinum Seal of Transparency—the highest level of recognition offered by Candid.

For us, transparency isn't just about earning a seal. It's about being accountable to the people who trust us with their support and to the individuals and families who trust us to walk alongside them during reentry.

Achieving Platinum means we've shared detailed information about our mission, programs, leadership, goals, strategies, finances, and the impact we're working to create.

As OTWH continues to grow, we want our donors, partners, volunteers, and community to know who we are, what we're doing, where we're going, and how support is being used to help people successfully navigate the journey home.

We're building OTWH for the long term—and we're committed to doing it with transparency, accountability, and purpose.

💙 Thank you to everyone who continues to believe in this work.

No one should have to navigate the journey home alone.

📍 ALABAMA — WHERE SHOULD WE GO NEXT?

On The Way Home is planning ONE MORE Family Reentry Workshop this year, and we want families and communities to help us decide where it should be.

We’ve added 4 tentative workshop locations:

📍 Brewton
📍 Mobile
📍 Huntsville
📍 Montgomery

If you have a loved one who is incarcerated, preparing to come home, or recently returned home—or you simply believe families in your community need better reentry resources—please RSVP for the location closest to you.

These RSVPs matter. ❤️

We’ll use the response from each community to help determine where we can make the greatest impact with our final workshop of 2026.

Our Family Reentry Workshops are FREE and designed to help families better understand reentry, prepare for the challenges of coming home, connect with resources, and support their loved one while also taking care of themselves.

👇 View the tentative locations and RSVP here:
https://www.otwhreentry.org/news-events

⚠️ These events are tentative. RSVPing shows us that your community is interested—it does not mean the workshop has been officially scheduled yet.

Help us decide where to go next. RSVP and share this with families in your community.

💙 A LOT IS HAPPENING AT ON THE WAY HOME!

If you haven’t visited our website lately, now is a great time to take another look.

We’ve spent this week making some BIG updates to make it easier for individuals, families, community partners, and supporters to find what they need and connect with OTWH.

🌐 Our updated website now makes it easier to:
• Learn more about On The Way Home and our work
• Find help and reentry resources
• Connect with support before and after release
• Access resources for families
• Learn about Family Reentry Workshops
• Find ways to partner with OTWH
• Support our work and the people we serve

But while we’ve been working behind the scenes on the website, the real work hasn’t stopped.

🏠 TWO MEN WE HAVE BEEN WORKING WITH WERE RELEASED IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS.

Coming home is exciting—but it also means starting over with some of the most basic things many of us take for granted.

Right now, we are collecting donations to help meet their immediate needs.

NEW ITEMS NEEDED:
🧦 Socks
🩳 Underwear
🧴 Toiletries & personal hygiene items

OTHER ITEMS NEEDED:
👖 Jeans
👕 T-shirts
👟 Shoes

We also need shelf-stable snacks and easy-to-keep food items for at least one of the men as he gets settled.

Every pair of socks, every hygiene item, every shirt and every snack helps someone begin rebuilding life after incarceration with a little more stability and dignity.

This is exactly why we do what we do.

The website may look different—but the mission remains the same: helping people prepare for, navigate, and move forward after incarceration.
