Fentanyl is changing the overdose crisis.

It is a synthetic opioid that is extremely potent, and it is increasingly being found in counterfeit pills and mixed into other illegal drugs—often without a person's knowledge.

That means someone may believe they're taking one substance when they're actually exposed to fentanyl.

Just a tiny amount can be enough to cause a fatal overdose.

The good news is that education saves lives.

Knowing the risks.

Avoiding counterfeit pills.

Carrying Narcan.

Recognizing the signs of an overdose.

Recognizing the signs of an opioid overdose can save a life.

In an emergency, every second matters. Knowing what to look for can help you act quickly while waiting for first responders to arrive.

Common signs of an opioid overdose include:

Unresponsiveness or inability to wake the person
Slow, shallow, or stopped breathing
Blue or gray lips and fingertips
Pinpoint pupils
Gurgling, choking, or snoring-like sounds
Limp body or pale, clammy skin

If you think someone is experiencing an overdose:

Call 911 immediately.
Administer Narcan (naloxone) if it is available.
Stay with the person until emergency responders arrive.
If trained and safe to do so, provide rescue breathing or CPR if needed.

You don't have to be a medical professional to save a life. Learning the signs and knowing how to respond can make all the difference.

Community Partner Spotlight: Veterans Faith Initiative

Every community is stronger when organizations work together.

This week we're honored to spotlight Veterans Faith Initiative, a Texas nonprofit dedicated to serving veterans, active-duty military members, and their families through faith, peer support, fellowship, family support, and connections to valuable community resources. Their mission is to strengthen spiritual well-being, promote mental and emotional stability, encourage service to others, and help prevent veteran su***de through faith and community.

I recently had the privilege of meeting Reginald Parker Jr., Founder & President, at a local veteran resource event. During our conversation, I learned that Veterans Faith Initiative includes Celebrate Recovery among the recovery resources they share with veterans on their website.

That spirit of collaboration is exactly what community partnership is all about.

We're grateful to return the favor by introducing our followers to an organization that is making a meaningful difference in the lives of those who have served our country.
