“Whenever and however you give birth, your experience will impact your emotions, your mind, your body, and your spirit for the rest of your life.”

That quote has stayed with me because birth is about so much more than how a baby enters the world.

Years later, many women may not remember exactly how many hours they labored or every detail of what happened. But they remember how they felt. They remember whether they felt heard or dismissed. Supported or afraid. Powerful or powerless.

Birth leaves an imprint.

Not because there is only one “right” way to give birth, but because bringing a child into the world is one of the most vulnerable, transformative experiences a person can have. It changes you. It stretches you. It reveals parts of yourself you may have never met before.

No matter what your birth story looks like, your feelings about it matter. Your experience matters. The way you were cared for matters.

Because birth doesn’t just bring a baby into the world.

It brings a mother into the world too. 🤍

I love highlighting these types of videos for birth prep! 🤰 The right stretching and light exercises in third trimester are so important for having a smoother, more efficient and sometimes even less painful.

These types of stretches help to lengthen uterine ligaments, stretch pelvic ligaments and muscles, back muscles, etc!
Doing these types of stretches can also help baby to get into the most ideal position (back against your belly and head down) which is a significant factor in shorter labors, and preventing back labor (which is not fun if you’ve been there 😩)

Did you do any of these stretches and exercises? Make sure to save this reel!

Sometimes mamas work so incredibly hard to get their babies earth side. Sometimes labor isn’t what we thought it would be or how it would feel. Sometimes it’s just long and very hard. Little girl is earth side. She came at 40wks and weighed #8 5 oz.

Sweet boy wanted to be there for his mama! 🥹🥰

Just a little mid week oxytocin boost for you 💛

When you were in labor, did you love having those close to you surrounding you and touching you or did you not want anybody near you and touching you?

Oh my goodness 😩😭 what an amazing video this is! This sweet boy was there coaching and helping his mama through labor.

Children are so intuitive. They can feel even more than we do. I could watch this video 100 times!

Were any of your young children present during birth?

This video is basically a masterclass in 4 ways you can surrender to birth intensity during active labor and beyond!

The way she’s relaxing and leaning into her partners embrace, it helps to boost oxytocin and increase feelings of safety, which is very important for labor progression.

She has a labor come in her hand when she squeezes it. It activates pressure points in her hand, which helps to confuse the brain and pain signals so that it’s not focusing only on the intensity of labor, helps release, natural endorphins through those pressure points!

The low, guttural moaning sounds helps her jaw relax, and body to relax. The vibration from the sounds is going to help stimulate her vagus nerve which helps calm the entire nervous system, and the moaning sounds like will relax and open up the whole pelvic region. (Tight jaw and staying tense = tight pelvic region and we don’t want that. We want open, soft, relaxed)

Way to go mama!

I had a moment today that made me realize just how strange my life can be. I often feel as though I have two very separate lives and the two lives don’t have a shared bridge back and forth. I somehow find the ability, or try too, leave my experiences of work at the door. My heart isn’t always willing to comply to such requests. How does one “leave work at work”?

Being present during a miscarriage and holding a 7wk babe in my hand. To realizing how humbling it is when a woman shares her sexual abuse story with you. To then walk back to my home and make a meal for my family I sometimes feel caught in this great place of “in-between”. One simply doesn’t walk away from those experiences unchanged. These experiences often break me.

Being invited into a women’s hurt, love, loss is humbling and encompassing. Somedays I do better than others at leaving work at work. Somedays I do better at being present in the mundane of life. It’s not lost on me. I carry those stories and those experiences, those secrets with me. I am grateful to have been called to such a place as midwifery.
