I find a lot of this information true. Late transfers of care into a midwife’s service are a challenge, especially, and add to the midwife’s burden in a way most would never understand. Many clients do not understand what their “asks” truly mean to the midwife. Many times these things are happily absorbed by the midwife, but that does not make them less challenging.

Spontaneous vaginal birth is associated with the best outcomes for mothers and babies. To which all the independent/private midwives say.....DUH.

Evidence shows that who provides your care might be the biggest predictor of your outcomes.

Private OBs had startlingly low rates of spontaneous labour,(8.2%) whereas private midwives had the highest (82.3%).

Homebirth doesn’t mean we don’t access medical care when needed. Sometimes there are reasons the body doesn’t function as expected. Your midwife is there for you, even in the unexpected or tricky situation. Supporting clients through transports is an important service that we can provide to help families navigate the medical system.
