Back-to-school safety starts with a few simple steps! 🎒📚

As kids head back to the classroom, families can help set the stage for a safe and healthy school year by building good habits from the start.

• Bus and walking safety: Use sidewalks, cross at designated crosswalks, stay alert and wait in a safe area away from traffic.

• Bike safety: Always wear a properly fitted helmet, stay visible and follow traffic laws.

• Sports safety: Use the right protective equipment, stay hydrated and report injuries right away. Never ignore the signs of a concussion and always get medical clearance before returning to play.

A little preparation can go a long way toward helping kids stay safe, healthy and ready to learn all year long! 💚

Not all heroes wear capes, but these ones definitely know how to make an entrance. 🦸💚

Spider-Man, Superman, Batman and friends traded the sidewalk for the side of our hospital, rappelling down the building to surprise patients at Hoops Family Children's Hospital at Cabell Huntington Hospital.

For our kids, it wasn't just about superheroes—it was about laughter, wonder and a chance to forget about being in the hospital, even if only for a little while.
Thank you to High Access Window Cleaning for making another unforgettable day possible.

Tick season is here. Are you prepared? 🔎🕷️

Spending time outdoors is one of the best parts of summer, but it's important to protect yourself and your family from tick bites.

Marshall Health Network Pediatrician Dr. Jessica Roth recommends:

✅ Use an insect repellent containing DEET or picaridin when spending time in grassy or wooded areas.

✅ Check your entire body after being outdoors, especially your scalp, ears, belly button, waist, arms, legs and groin.

✅ Remove attached ticks promptly with fine-tipped tweezers and clean the area well afterward.

✅ Watch for signs of infection or Lyme disease, including redness, swelling, fever, fatigue or a rash.

Remember, ticks don't fall from trees. They are most commonly found in tall grass, brush and wooded areas. West Virginia has also seen an increase in Lone Star ticks in recent years, making prevention more important than ever.

If you develop symptoms after a tick bite or remove an engorged blacklegged tick within the past 72 hours, contact your healthcare provider.
