What do you think? Is lonely the same as being alone?

Being alone is not the same as being lonely.

There is a quiet joy in your own company. No need to fill every silence, chase every invitation, or fear an empty room. Some of life’s sweetest moments happen when you’re sitting with a cup of coffee, walking through nature, reading a good book, or simply enjoying your own thoughts.

Solitude can be a gift. It gives us space to reflect, recharge, create, pray, and appreciate the simple things we often miss in a busy world.

Being alone isn’t something to be feared. Sometimes it is where we discover our greatest sense of freedom, gratitude, and joy.

Early this morning I was jolted awake from a dead sleep by what felt like an emergency.

(It wasn’t actually an emergency. It was just my daughter’s lack of planning for something important).

Half asleep, I somehow remembered where to find what she needed, fumbled around for keys and shoes, ran to my car, retrieved the item, then came back inside to discover the printer wasn’t working.

A few random button pushes later, I fixed the setting and saved the day.

Mom mode: activated.

Then I went back to bed and realized my stomach hurt. I could feel the residue of panic in my body, and sleep wasn’t coming back anytime soon. The “crisis” was over, but my body hadn’t gotten the message yet.

So I did what I’ve learned to do.

A few deep breaths.

Told my husband the story and started laughing uncontrollably at the absurdity of it all.

Cuddled my dogs.

And when I realized I couldn’t go back to sleep, I grabbed my coffee and headed outside.

A few weeds pulled from the garden.

More deep breaths.

Birdsong.

Morning light and dew on my skin.

The goal isn’t to stay calm all the time. Life doesn’t work that way.

The goal is knowing how to return.

Not perfectly. Not instantly.

Just one small grounding choice at a time.

You’ve done the therapy.

You’ve read the books.

You understand where your patterns come from.

Yet you still find yourself overthinking, people-pleasing, shutting down, or repeating the same relationship patterns.

If insight alone could create change, you’d already be there.

My intensives are custom-designed for each client and may integrate EMDR, nervous system work, mindfulness, movement, expressive arts, and other approaches depending on your needs.

This isn’t about talking about the same things over and over. It’s about creating the space for meaningful, lasting change.

If you’re tired of understanding your patterns but still feeling stuck in them, let’s talk. I offer complimentary consultations to help determine whether an intensive might be the right next step for you.
