🦷 Getting a Dental Crown? Here's What to Expect! 🦷

A dental crown is a custom-made "cap" that covers and protects a damaged, weakened, or heavily filled tooth while restoring its strength and appearance.

The crown process typically involves:
✅ Exam and evaluation of the tooth
✅ Shaping the tooth to make room for the crown
✅ Taking digital scans or impressions
✅ Placing a temporary crown while your permanent crown is made
✅ Cementing the final custom crown into place

Crowns can help restore function, protect teeth from further damage, and give you a confident smile. If you have a cracked tooth, a large filling, or have recently had a root canal, a crown may be recommended.

Happy June!!!

June is National Oral Health Month and National Smile Month, a dedicated time to raise awareness about the critical link between a healthy mouth and your overall well-being. It serves as an annual reminder to establish excellent hygiene habits and schedule preventative dental checkups.

🦷 What You Should Do This Month

Book a Checkup: Ensure you are up-to-date on your bi-annual cleaning and exams. It is the easiest way to catch cavities and gum disease early before they become painful or expensive to treat.
Brush Twice a Day: Use fluoride toothpaste and brush for two full minutes.
Floss Daily: Clean the tight spaces between your teeth that your toothbrush cannot reach.
Mind Your Diet: Limit sugary and acidic foods/drinks that can lead to enamel erosion and tooth decay.

Have you ever heard of a cantilever bridge?

A cantilever dental bridge replaces a single missing tooth by anchoring a false tooth to only one neighboring supporting tooth (like a diving board). It is usually recommended for front teeth where chewing forces are lighter.

Did you know...

That there are 4 types of dental cleanings?

Not every dental cleaning is the same! The type you need depends on your oral health:

✨ Regular Cleaning (Prophy) – For healthy teeth and gums with routine visits.
✨ Gross Debridement – Removes heavy buildup so the dentist can properly evaluate your teeth and gums.
✨ Deep Cleaning (Scaling & Root Planing) – Treats gum disease by cleaning below the gumline.
✨ Periodontal Maintenance – Ongoing care after a deep cleaning to help keep gum disease under control.

💙 Regular dental visits help keep your smile healthy and bright! Call us if you have questions about your cleaning needs.

It's Dentistry 101 Wednesday!!!

What happens if a baby tooth becomes infected and needs a root canal?

A root canal on a baby tooth, often called a pulpotomy or "baby root canal," is a common dental procedure used to save a primary tooth with deep decay or nerve infection. It prevents premature tooth loss, which can cause spacing issues for permanent teeth. The procedure involves removing the damaged pulp, applying medication, and placing a crown, usually in under 60 minutes.
