AAP’s vaccine recommendations for U.S. children are built on decades of research, thousands of studies, continuous safety monitoring, and the expertise of physicians and scientists whose sole focus is children's health. AAP’s schedule is based on when children’s immune systems respond best to immunizations, and when they are most vulnerable to preventable diseases.

We don't change recommendations because of political considerations, speculations, or misinformation. Right now, the evidence continues to show that these vaccines are safe, effective, and important for protecting children.

It's Game Time!!
A preparticipation physical is required yearly before sports.
Now is the time to get your sports physicals!
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends getting these done at your primary care physician's office, who knows your past medical history well versus drive-thru and quick group physical locations.
WE HAVE SEVERAL OPENINGS AVAILABLE IN THE NEXT WEEK!

Wanted to discuss energy drinks and your kids safety
A large number of kids use energy drinks.
I especially notice teen girls drinking Alani!
Did you notice the pretty can and advertisements?
What it does to your child is not pretty though!
Did you know one can of Alani has 200 mgs of caffeine? That is the equivalent of drinking FOUR 12 ounce cans of Mountain Dew!
Celsius has 200 mgs
Monster has 160 mgs
Red Bull has 114 mgs
Did you know that caffeine isn't the only stimulant in today's energy drinks? They also contain Taurine and guarana which add to the stimulant effects of caffeine.
Did you also know the FDA regulates the amount of caffeine in food and soft drinks and won't allow more than 71 mgs/ 12 ounce can of soda but energy drinks are not regulated by the FDA and therefore have no maximum allowed amounts or anyone overseeing safety!
Caffeine causes heart palpitations, high blood pressure, anxiety, dehydration, increased heart rate and sometimes weight gain!
Caffeine stays in your system 12 hours and disrupts sleep
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends zero caffeine for kids under 12 and a max of 100 mgs for teens and strictly monitor for symptoms
Don't let the pretty can fool you! They're pretty for a reason and one of those is to attract your kids attention! Be safe!

Many more people than ever before have chosen to defer or delay vaccines and part of this is because they aren't old enough to have seen the diseases that vaccines protect against because the vaccines have worked so well. Therefore, they aren't scared of these diseases.
Another reason is that there is tons of misinformation given out by non-medical influencers who don't have your children's best interest at heart.
Because I have been a pediatrician for thirty years I have seen these diseases and have seen the consequences of them, including death in some of the children. I am sharing some examples of the consequences of vaccine preventable diseases. Today's post is consequences of diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis which is what the Dtap prevents. There's also a Pertussis vaccine that moms can take to protect their newborns. Also some pics of the consequences of measles, mumps and rubella ( which is what the MMR vaccine prevents). Also included are Polio (prevented by IPV), Meningococcal meningitis ( prevented by the meningitis vaccine given at 11 and 16). RSV prevented by the Beyfortus vaccine which is recommended to all babies under 8 months born during RSV season. Others will follow.
I fear how many children could die if this misinformation continues to spread. I can't change everyone's mind but I'm not being a child advocate if I don't ever say anything. Kids deserve healthy lives feee of sickness.
Any comments with medical misinformation will be promptly deleted.
Take a listen and look at some (not all) of the diseases that can be easily prevented without harming your child.
