Why does the same muscle keep getting tight—even after a massage?
Massage can help release tension and provide relief, but sometimes that tightness eventually returns. That doesn’t mean your massage “didn’t work.” It may mean your body is responding to something you do regularly.
Recurring muscle tension can be connected to:
-Repetitive movements at work or home
-Sitting or standing in the same position for long periods
-Stress and nervous-system tension
-Weakness in another area causing the muscle to work harder
-Sleeping position
-Not getting enough rest or recovery
Sometimes the area that feels tight isn’t the original source of the problem. Your body works as a team, so one muscle may become overworked while trying to compensate for another area.
Massage can help calm the nervous system, improve movement, and reduce tension—but the things you do between appointments matter too. Stretching, changing positions throughout the day, staying hydrated, and paying attention to repeated habits can all support longer-lasting results.
Your body isn’t working against you. It may simply be asking for a little extra support.
