The WVAFP was proud to join colleagues from across the Southeast this weekend in Orange Beach, Alabama, for the 2026 Southeastern Family Medicine Forum, hosted by the Alabama Academy of Family Physicians.
The Forum provided an important opportunity for Family Medicine leaders to exchange ideas, compare challenges, and strengthen the relationships that connect our state chapters throughout the region. Conversations throughout the meeting addressed some of the most important issues facing Family Medicine today, including rural health transformation, federal and state advocacy, physician volunteerism, medication safety, value-based care, and emerging applications of artificial intelligence in medicine.
The meeting also provided valuable updates from the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and opportunities for chapter leaders to discuss shared legislative priorities, organizational challenges, and strategies for advancing Family Medicine at both the state and national levels.
WVAFP is grateful to the Alabama Academy of Family Physicians for its hospitality and for bringing together Family Medicine leaders from across the Southeast. Collaboration among our state chapters strengthens our collective voice and helps ensure that Family Medicine remains at the forefront of building stronger practices, healthier communities, and a more sustainable healthcare system.
