You’ve done the work. You’ve talked about it, processed it, maybe even forgiven.
And yet, your shoulders still tense when someone raises their voice, or maybe
your chest still tightens in situations that “shouldn’t” bother you anymore.
Your body is still bracing for something your mind knows isn’t coming.
This can feel confusing, but here’s what may be happening:
Trauma isn’t just a memory. It’s a physiological imprint. When something overwhelmed your nervous system (especially repeatedly, especially in childhood ), your body learned to stay on guard. It built patterns of protection that kept you safe.
The problem is, those patterns don’t automatically update just because time has passed or because you understand what happened intellectually.
The body needs its own kind of healing. Not just insight, but felt safety.
That is why approaches like somatic therapy, EMDR, sound healing, breathwork, and trauma-informed movement exist. They speak the language your body actually understands.
Your healing doesn’t have to stay only in your head. 🌿
