Dear Valued Patients,
Today, I am announcing my retirement effective Jan. 3, 2025. While I am excited to enter this new phase of life, I am a bit wistful as well. It’s hard to believe that over 30 years have passed since I delivered the first of more than 4,000 babies. I had a vision for my career, and it has exceeded my wildest dreams. I never anticipated the deep connections I would form with my patients and their families. The joy I would receive in helping an infertile couple become pregnant, care for her while pregnant, and to be there delivering their baby. I am grateful for all the miracles. Of course, there have also been moments of great sadness from pregnancy losses, cancer and other illnesses and I have always strived to provide as much support as possible during those times.
When I started, I was told to treat every patient as though they were your mother, sister, wife or daughter. I did my best daily to embody the spirit of that care. I had wanted continuity of patients over the years and was blessed to have that. I have provided care for numerous women over the course of several decades, including many young women whom I delivered. I was able to deliver three and four babies for the same family and even delivered babies of some women that I had delivered decades prior. It has truly been amazing.
I have enjoyed my association with Encompass Medical Group, and my colleagues are ready to assume responsibility for your care. For my patients' future Gynecological care, I highly recommend Independence Women’s Clinic. If you would like to arrange a transfer of your records to the provider of your choice, please call my office at 816-356-5000.
I will genuinely miss all of you and our conversations over the years. I am humbled and appreciative of you placing your trust in my care. It has truly been a privilege. I wish you all the best for your future health.
Thomas Dowd, M.D.
