Milkweed is a favorite plant for butterflies, but its milky sap can be highly toxic to the eyes.
The sap contains cardiac glycosides that can cause severe irritation, corneal swelling, blurred vision, light sensitivity, and even temporary vision loss if it gets into your eyes.
If you've been handling milkweed, avoid touching your eyes and wash your hands thoroughly. If sap enters your eyes, rinse immediately and seek prompt medical attention.
