June is PTSD Awareness Month. ๐ Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder doesn't care who you are, what you do for a living, or where you've been. While the acronym "PTSD" is deeply connected with combat veterans, trauma actually impacts people from all walks of life.
Trauma actually has many different faces. It can stem from things we don't always talk about openly, like surviving a toxic relationship, a sudden loss, a difficult medical diagnosis, an accident, or childhood emotional neglect. Trauma isn't just about the event itself; itโs about how your entire system processed it. If your body still feels like it's stuck in "fight, flight, or freeze" mode long after the danger has passed, please know that this isn't a weakness. Itโs your brain doing its absolute best to keep you safe.
You donโt have to carry the heavy weight of a hyper-vigilant mind all on your own. Therapy is a safe place to help your body learn that it is finally okay to drop its guard. ๐ฑ
Save this post to remind yourself, or a friend, that healing takes time. ๐
