The IHS Green Bandana Project is so excited to announce that our second annual “Light Up the
Dark” will be held on October 28th from 6-8pm at the Indiana Senior High School.

We are inviting any IASD students to “Light up the Dark,” a Halloween themed event that is intended to raise awareness about mental health to students in all grades. We do this through age appropriate activities that engage students and help them to gain an understanding of the Green Bandana Project and allow them to see that caring about one’s mental health isn’t scary.

This is a FREE event that is open to kids of all grades in the Indiana School District. Dressing up in costumes is encouraged (we just ask that there are no weapons or full-face masks)! There
will be games, face painting, story reading, trick or treating, a pay-what-you-can bake sale, and
more!

We are asking that families/students pre-register for the event so our student staff members can be adequately prepared for a spectacular event!

We are beyond honored to have received the Angel on Earth Award from the Indiana Su***de Task Force at the Walk for a Wonderful Life. This award is an amazing recognition of the work we have done in our school and our community. Thank you so much to everyone that has supported our mission and helped us do the amazing work we do. 💚

Join us Tuesday, April 14 for the Green Bandana Project Fundraiser at Primanti Bros. from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. 💚

Stop by anytime during the day to support a great cause while enjoying lunch, dinner, or a snack with friends and family. A portion of proceeds will help support IHS Green Bandana Project initiatives, so every meal makes a difference.

Bonus: there’s a Pittsburgh Pirates game that day too, so make plans to catch the game on the TVs at the restaurant while you eat!⚾️

We’d love to see as many people there as possible, so please share and spread the word!

On Friday, February 6, 2026, members of the IHS Green Bandana Project attended the NAMI Youth Mental Health Conference in Pittsburgh, Pa. This conference is one of the only conferences in the country specializing in children, adolescents, and transition-age youth.

Prior to the conference, students had an opportunity to submit an essay to the Youth Mental Health Leadership Award Essay Contest. This award recognizes the passion and courage of young leaders who are committed to fighting the stigma of mental health conditions, providing a safe community for peers to share their own mental health experiences, and empowering peers through education.

We are pleased to announce that IHS senior Anna Carnovale was the 2026 Youth Mental Health Leadership Award recipient. Anna was presented with her award, along side a $1,000 prize, during the luncheon portion of the conference.

The IHS Green Bandana Project would like to thank the Indiana Education Foundation and the United Way of Indiana County for making their attendance at this conference possible.

Join us for our first annual “Light Up the Dark” night on Wednesday, October 29 from 6-8 p.m. “Light Up the Dark” is a free, family-friendly event for all IASD students and their families. The evening will include trick-or-treating, games, activities, live characters, and fun Halloween-themed experiences—all while promoting a positive message about mental health.

Green Bandana’s mission is to create a safe, memorable night that helps end the stigma surrounding mental health while giving kids a chance to celebrate the spooky season. Stop by IHS for a frighteningly fun night!

We are SO GRATEFUL for the support of the United Way this school year!

IHS and IASD are honored to share that the Indiana Senior High School branch of the Green Bandana Project has been awarded a $1,000 United Way of Indiana County 2025 Grant to support their 2025-2026 initiatives.

The Green Bandana Project increases student awareness of school-based mental health and su***de prevention resources and empowers students to seek help when they need it. Green Bandana members wear a green bandana on their backpacks so other students know who to look to for help and support. These members will work to help connect students in need with the proper support systems and resources.

Last school year, the Green Bandana Project hosted various activities within the school, including but not limited to, an Easter egg hunt, therapy dog visits, apparel promotion, and more. The project is looking to expand their initiatives this school year with the help of the United Way.
