“A walking testimony.” That’s how breast cancer survivor Gretchen Grier describes her story of faith, strength, community, and hope.

Diagnosed with stage 3 triple-negative breast cancer in February 2024, at age 60, Gretchen faced six rounds of chemotherapy and five surgeries. Through meals, prayer calls, rides, and quiet company, her village of family and friends helped carry her through. Her care team at IU Health West Hospital guided her through treatment with skill and compassion.

Today, that village remains by her side, reminding us that support does not end when treatment ends. This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let Gretchen’s story inspire you to ask questions about your breast health and reach out to someone facing cancer. A meal, a ride, or a listening ear can mean so much.
