We aren’t the only ones who enjoyed having a Belmont University OT student with us this summer! Alexis was all smiles working with Miss Amanda. He’s made amazing strides after a premature birth, and he’s almost ready to graduate just in time for his 1st birthday!

Congrats to Cooper on his graduation from First Steps ! Cooper has been working hard over the last year and a half on using language and being understood by others. His family did a great job using exciting outdoor activities to build his speech and language skills. Therapy time was spent, searching for crawfish, building mud pies in his fairy garden and taking care of the family’s landscaping! He’s now ready to face any communication challenge!

Walking is the foundation, not the finish line!
Once toddlers are walking, they’re still developing the strength, balance, coordination, and motor planning needed to run, climb, jump, navigate stairs, play on playgrounds, and participate in everyday activities!

We’re celebrating Vision Therapist Appreciation Week! We’re so thankful for the vision therapists we get to collaborate with from VIPS. We learn so much from them that we can carry over into other therapies, helping skills connect across everyday routines!

We’re so grateful to an outstanding PT team who each go above and boynd for the families they serve. They get down on the floor, follow a child’s lead, work with what motivates them, problem-solve alongside parents, and find ways to make therapy feel like a natural part of real life.

Buddy Walk is the largest fundraising and awareness event for Down Syndrome Indiana! As the event begins, there is live music and acts, exhibitors, vendors, and much more! The walk is the main event, and then there are awards as well as opportunities throughout the day to connect with DSI staff, community partners, families in our community, and much more!

If Halloween events can feel like a lot for your little one, this is one to add to your calendar. The Indianapolis Zoo is offering a sensory-friendly ZooBoo day with reduced music and lighting, quiet spaces, and sensory bags to help make the experience more comfortable and enjoyable.

Communication doesn’t have to look one certain way. The International day of Sign Languages was created in 2017 to protect the linguistic identity of deaf people. Our speech therapists support each child’s individual way of communicating, whether that includes sign language, spoken language, AAC, gestures, or a combination of communication methods.

Fall is here! We rounded up some of our favorite local spots for little ones to play, explore, and make some cozy fall memories. These fun fall activities are also full of opportunities to work on movement, coordination, sensory processing, communication, social skills, and independence, all while just being a kid!
