Dress Sandals: Cute? Absolutely. Perfect for your feet? Not always.

👍 Pros:
• Lightweight and breathable
• Easy to pair with summer outfits
• Great for short outings

👎 Cons:
• Usually very little arch support
• Minimal cushioning
• Can aggravate heel pain, plantar fasciitis, and tendon issues when worn all day

Our verdict: Dress sandals are fine for occasional wear, but your feet will thank you for saving them for shorter trips, not all-day adventures.

Sport sandals have come a long way from the flimsy sandals many of us grew up wearing.

In fact, some sport sandals can be a surprisingly good option for people looking for comfort, adjustability, and support during the summer months.

👍 What we like:
• Adjustable straps for a secure fit
• Better stability than flip-flops
• Often provide decent arch support
• Great for travel, sightseeing, and everyday wear
• Allow your feet to stay cool in warm weather

👎 What we don't like:
• Not all sport sandals are created equal
• Some models are too flat or too flexible
• Worn-out sandals lose support over time
• Long days of walking may still call for a supportive athletic shoe

⭐ Podiatrist Verdict:
Generally, sport sandals are one of the better sandal options available—especially compared to traditional flip-flops.

Are slides actually good for your feet?
The answer: it depends.

Some slides offer:
• Cushioning
• Arch support
• Easy comfort after workouts
• More support than ultra-flat flip flops

But many slides can also:
• Make your toes grip to keep them on
• Strain tendons and arches
• Worsen plantar fasciitis
• Cause fatigue during long days of walking

Slides may feel comfortable at first… but not all slides are built for all-day wear.

Believe it or not, Crocs actually have some benefits. They’re lightweight, cushioned, roomy, and can be more comfortable than flat flip flops for some people.

But… they’re not perfect for everything. Because they’re loose and lack stability, wearing them for long walks, workouts, or all-day support can sometimes lead to foot fatigue, heel pain, or instability.

👟 Best for: quick errands, around the house, the pool, or recovery after activity
🚫 Not ideal for: long days on your feet or high activity

Your feet deserve the right support this summer! ☀️

Flip flops may be convenient… but most offer very little support for your feet.

Many flat flip flops lack:
❌ arch support
❌ cushioning
❌ stability
❌ secure foot positioning

And over time, that can contribute to:
• heel pain
• arch strain
• tendon irritation
• plantar fasciitis flare-ups
• foot fatigue

Bottom line?
If your feet hurt after a day in flip flops, your shoes may be part of the problem.

Birkenstocks: trendy… or actually supportive?

Believe it or not, Birkenstocks are one of the more supportive sandal options out there for many people.

Why?
✔ Contoured footbed
✔ Arch support
✔ Adjustable straps
✔ More stability than typical flat sandals or flip flops

That said — they’re not perfect for everyone.

Some people may still need additional support depending on their foot type, activity level, or conditions like plantar fasciitis, bunions, or tendon pain.

And worn-out Birkenstocks lose support over time, too.

Bottom line?
Supportive sandals should help your foot feel stable and secure — not floppy, flat, or strained by the end of the day.

Sandals can be notoriously hard on your feet

And unfortunately… some of the most popular styles offer little to no support.

This summer, we’re starting a new series breaking down:
✔ which sandals are better for your feet
✔ what features to look for
✔ common mistakes that lead to foot pain
✔ and which styles may aggravate conditions like plantar fasciitis, bunions, tendon pain, and neuromas

First up?
What makes a sandal “supportive” in the first place.

Your feet know summer is coming before the calendar does.

More sandals. More walks. More time outside.
And sometimes… more heel pain, arch pain, or burning in the ball of your foot.

If foot pain is slowing you down, now is a great time to get ahead of it before summer activities are in full swing.
