INSSWA promotes school social work by advocating for student services within all schools, hosting professional development, and supporting advocacy efforts. The power of school social work goes beyond state lines!!

Yesterday, ISSWA was proud to join school social workers from Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois in advocating on the federal level during meetings with congressional offices. While we each represent different states, we heard many of the same stories, shared similar challenges, and celebrated the incredible impact school social workers have on students, families, and schools.

Together, we used our collective voice to advocate for federal policies that strengthen school based mental health supports, improve student success, and support the school social work workforce. Our conversations highlighted priorities including the School Social Workers Improving Student Success Act, Elementary and Secondary School Counseling Act, Mental Health Services for Students Act, Counseling Not Criminalization in Schools Act, and the LEAP Act (Loan Equity for Advanced Professionals Act).

Today, we concluded the SSWAA Legislative Institute with a visit to National Association of Social Workers, continuing important conversations about advancing school social work through national collaboration and advocacy.

Thank you to School Social Work Association of America (SSWAA) for bringing school social workers together from across the country to share our stories and advocate with one collective voice!

Leading Through Pain: How Educators can Transform Wounds into Wisdom

In this powerful keynote address based on his book Leading Through Pain: Transform Your Wounds into Wisdom, Robert Jackson reveals how your greatest pain can become your greatest preparation for transformational leadership. Drawing from his own journey from childhood trauma and poverty to becoming an award-winning educator and author, Mr. Jackson equips school leaders and educators with practical strategies to break the cycle of “hurt people hurting people” and instead become healed people who heal others.
