Today we come together to remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country’s freedom. Because of them, we are blessed with the opportunity to stand together, support one another, and fight the battles in our own lives with the strength of fellowship beside us.

We honor those who gave everything, and we remain forever grateful for the freedoms their selflessness secured.

We had the chance to celebrate Bobbie’s 1 year with some incredible people who consistently pour into this community. We are thankful for the culture in our household and that wouldn’t be a possibility if there weren’t people like this in our city who give their time and wisdom generously. It takes a village. Keep showing up for people to show them recovery is possible.

Everybody congratulate Bobbie on his 1 year!

Bobbie has been our House Manager for just under two months now. He did not get this position because he was a walking example stepping into our house and quite actually, Bobbie showed signs that he might be a little bit difficult. But turns out, he WASN’T and he received this position because of his resiliency, growth, and sheer effort to make this time count. He is an encouragement to his peers and a humble force of accountability. Bobbie is very family oriented and treats the people he has met on this journey, just like family.
 We are very happy that Bobbie has chose to be a long-standing resident of Acts and super excited to see what’s all in store for this man.

So today, we celebrate something worth celebrating! Please join us in congratulating him!

Uncensored testimony from David as he says farewell:

“To anyone willing to listen

Life’s been hard since I turned 19. From major depression, to trauma I’ve refused to work through, and the thing that everyone tends to see and remember me by: drug addiction.

I’ve spent years working to try and fix things; to try and fix myself. But recovery isn’t linear, it would be a hell of a lot easier if it was. Sometimes you take 3 steps forward, then 2 backwards. 5 forward, then 7 backwards, and so on. It feels like an endless battle sometimes when you don’t see any progress, and giving yourself grace becomes impossible. I became my own worst enemy.

Last May I relapsed, and it got ugly. I’d lost all hope. And after receiving treatment, a good man named Woody highly recommended I try and get in to Acts of Service as a sober living environment. As someone who’s tried (and most certainly failed) sober living before, I thought this was gonna be futile. But I had no option.

Right away when I met Brad and Brittany, I could tell they actually gave a sh*t about their tenants and the people they meet in recovery. And this may sound bad, but in a world where a lot of people are all talk, those two certainly have shown action and good-heartedness since I have known them.

From 4th of July grill outs, to letting me get a dog (how AWESOME is that?! A sober living that let me shelter a dog! Hell yeah), and showing me grace in times where it felt like nobody else in the world would. And how could they if I won’t even show any for myself? As darkness crept in at times and I felt trapped, hopeless, and like there was zero shot I could stay sober… they worked with me. And I’m blessed to say somehow I’ve figured it out so far.

And so it’s with great pride and some bitter-sweetness that I’m taking the next step and moving out of sober living. Blaze and I are moving into an apartment, and I’m confident that I’ve gotten the tools that I need to continue care and grow in my recovery.

Those that know me understand that I don’t necessarily give out respect that often. However, Brad and Brittany have certainly earned a hell of a lot of it in my book.

It’s that time again!!! We have another resident that just signed on an apartment and will be moving out on Monday!

That means a bed will be open for another motivated individual in need of supportive housing. AOS Sober Living is not a housing first program. We are a structured, accountability-based environment designed for individuals who are serious about their recovery and ready to put in the work.

Our program focuses on personal responsibility, community, and growth. Residents are expected to actively participate in recovery, maintain employment or a productive daily routine, and contribute positively to the house.
