Self-Advocates of Indiana Self-Advocates of Indiana works to empower people with intellectual and developmental disabilities

SAI has more than 40 active self-advocate groups around the state. Groups meet regularly to discuss issues, plan events, meet with local and state officials, participate in service opportunities, and other activities to promote equality, respect, and dignified lives for people with disabilities.

Did you know the Self-Advocates of Indiana Annual Picnic on September 25th will be DJ-ed by a former SAI Board Member? Fulton Express was founded by Shawn Fulton (Former SAI Board President and The Arc of Indiana’s Advocacy Engagement & Education Manager) in 2002. Shawn then sold the business to his best friend and fellow SAI Board Member Erik Smith.

In this SAI Statewide Zoom, The Arc of Indiana Chief Legal Officer Tom Crishon explains Texas v. Kennedy, a lawsuit challenging important federal protections for people with disabilities.

Tom shares how sustained advocacy and strong relationships helped in Indiana's decision-making process when considering whether to withdraw from the lawsuit, and how self-advocates can continue connecting with leaders and other advocates across the country to protect disability rights.

Today we celebrate the birthday of one of Self Advocates of Indiana’s founders, the late great Betty Williams.

Betty’s birthday falls within Disability Pride Month, and we here at Self Advocates of Indiana are incredibly proud to have had such an important figure as part of our state's disability rights movement.

Betty was an incredible lady who touched a lot of hearts with her advocacy, inspiring several other advocates to take up the same passion for advocacy as she did. Betty was a trailblazer with her pursuit of a better future for all people with disabilities.
