The Indiana Public Health Association was formed in 1946 to unify efforts for advancing public health in the state of Indiana. Starting with only 26 members, the Association grew to over 600 members within two years. An annual meeting was established, committees were formed and IPHA became an affiliate of the American Public Health Association. In 1997, through a grant from the Indiana State Depar

tment of Health, IPHA hired its first full-time staff person. Today, IPHA continues on the foundation created over seventy years ago by bringing together health care providers, environmental health professionals, registrars and educators in partnership with Indiana communities to be a voice for the health of the public. On Thursday, we joined health care leaders and community partners at the Minority Health Coalition of Marion County’s Annual Luncheon at the JW Marriott Indianapolis. It was a meaningful afternoon, especially getting to celebrate champions like Dr. Virginia Caine of the Marion County Public Health Department for her continued dedication to community health.
