This July, NAMI Greater Indianapolis honors Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month by celebrating the life and legacy of Bebe Moore Campbell — an author, advocate, and changemaker whose work continues to inspire conversations about mental health in underserved communities. 💚
Bebe Moore Campbell understood the harm that stigma and silence can cause. She recognized that many people in communities of color were going without care because of shame, misunderstanding, and a lack of safe, supportive spaces to talk openly about mental health. She used her voice to advocate for hope, healing, and culturally inclusive care — and helped co-found NAMI Urban Los Angeles to support that mission.
Today, her legacy reminds us that mental health conversations must include every community, every story, and every person who has ever felt unseen in the mental health system.
This month, we invite our community to:
✨ Learn about the barriers underserved communities face in accessing care
✨ Help break stigma by talking openly about mental health
✨ Share resources, support, and encouragement with others
✨ Advocate for mental health care that is equitable, inclusive, and culturally responsive
