In my most recent Fox 59 interview, I talked about something every one of my patients on Medicare needs to hear right now. 👀
Medicare rolled out a pilot program on July 1, 2026 that gives people with a Medicare Part D plan access to GLP-1 medications like ZepBound, Wegovy, and Ozempic for just $50/month - regardless of dose.
Here's the catch: this is temporary. It ends in December 2027. That's an 18-month window.
Who qualifies? 👇
✅ BMI 35+ (standalone, no other diagnosis needed)
✅ BMI 30+ with chronic kidney disease, uncontrolled hypertension, or heart failure with preserved ejection fraction
✅ BMI 27+ with pre-diabetes, prior stroke, prior heart attack, or symptomatic peripheral artery disease
And here's the part patients don't realize: if you met these criteria when you STARTED your medication, you can still qualify - even if things have changed since then.
Sleep apnea, diabetes, and heart disease alone don't qualify you. It has to be one of the criteria above.
You'll want a provider who can properly monitor you on these medications - your P*P, obesity specialist, nephrologist, cardiologist, or even your sleep doctor if they're comfortable prescribing.
Don't sit on this window. 18 months goes fast.
