🧘♀️ Don’t forget about your mid-back!

When your thoracic spine (mid-back) lacks mobility, other areas, like your neck and lower back, may have to compensate by moving more than they should. Over time, this can contribute to stiffness, discomfort, and pain.

One simple way to incorporate more thoracic mobility into your routine is Cat-Cows. This movement gently takes your spine through flexion and extension while encouraging movement throughout your back.

Try adding a few slow, controlled Cat-Cows to your daily routine and focus on moving through your entire spine rather than forcing the movement.

Still struggling with neck or lower back pain? Don’t just work around it! Schedule an appointment with one of our doctors so we can evaluate what may be contributing to your pain and determine other ways we can help you move and feel better.

The reach through exercise!

This stretch is great for those lacking mobility in their daily routine, or maybe spend too much time in a seated position

This is meant to open up your chest, shoulders and middle back to increase rotation in your middle and upper back!

In a quadruped position, reach an arm up as high towards the ceiling as comfortably allowed, then reach down and through your opposite arm and knee to rotate the opposite direction!

Try it out and let us know how great it feels!

"Wear and tear” doesn't automatically mean your body is breaking down.

Changes in your joints and spine are common as we age, and they don't always explain why you're experiencing pain.

Instead of letting an X-ray determine what you can or can't do, look at the bigger picture: strength, mobility, symptoms, and your ability to tolerate load.

Don't let an image define what your body is capable of.

Pain on the outside of the hip or down the side of the leg doesn’t always mean the hip joint itself is the problem.

Sometimes a small muscle called the TFL is simply working overtime—especially during walking, running, stairs, lunges, or squats when the pelvis or knee has to work harder to stay controlled.

In this week’s tip, we show you where the TFL is, why it can become irritated or sensitive, and a simple way to use a foam roller to gently work the area.

The goal isn’t to attack the sore spot—it’s to calm things down, improve tolerance, and then figure out why that area may be getting overloaded in the first place.

Shoulder pain doesn’t always mean the shoulder joint itself is the problem.

Sometimes a small muscle in the front of the upper arm—the coracobrachialis—can become irritated and create pain around the front of the shoulder, down the arm, and sometimes even into the forearm or hand.

Movements like lifting with your arms away from your body, pushing, pulling, or reaching behind you may make it more noticeable. In this video, we explain what this muscle does, why it can become overloaded, and a few simple ways to reduce the strain and keep the shoulder moving comfortably.

🤰 Your body changes throughout pregnancy, and so does your center of gravity.

As baby grows, your center of gravity naturally shifts forward, which can place additional demands on your core and lower back. Learning how to properly engage your core can help support your changing posture, movement, and lower back throughout pregnancy.

Here at IHS, we focus on helping you feel supported, balanced, and confident in your changing body, not just managing discomfort when it occurs.

If you're looking to feel more supported and engaged throughout your pregnancy, we're here to help! ❤️

📲 Reach out to learn how chiropractic care and pregnancy-focused movement strategies can support you through each stage of pregnancy.
