MiraVista Diagnostics CLIA and CAP certified reference laboratory with an exclusive focus on diagnostic tests for serious

MiraVista Diagnostics is a CLIA and CAP certified reference laboratory with an exclusive focus on developing and processing diagnostic tests for serious fungal infection. The company was founded in 2002 by the renowned infectious disease scientist, Dr. Lawrence Joseph Wheat, whose groundbreaking research contributions resulted in the development of the first histoplasmosis antigen test. Today, MiraVista serves the medical and veterinary sectors in the U.S. and Canada processing over 100,000 tests per year for fungal infections. This includes antifungal drug monitoring tests for Itraconazole as well as antigen and antibody detection tests for coccidioidomycosis (valley fever fungus), aspergillosis, histoplasma capsulatum, blastomyces dermatitidis, fungitell and cryptococcus. The company offers same-day testing, prompt response, fast shipping and direct access to the laboratory’s team of experienced infectious disease specialists that has collectively published nearly 1,000 scientific articles. MiraVista’s clients include large medical research hospitals, health care institutions and universities as well as national esoteric labs and veterinary clinics. Visit www.MiraVistaLabs.com or call 866.647.2847 to discuss a fungal infection case, set up a corporate account for high volume testing or order from among MiraVista’s menu of diagnostic screening tests for fungal diseases. The maps clinicians use to diagnose Valley Fever haven't been meaningfully updated since the 1970s - more than 50 years ago.

A recent analysis of more than 45 million patient records found that Valley Fever, Histoplasmosis, and Blastomycosis now appear in at least half of U.S. states. This is well beyond their traditional geographic boundaries.

As fungal disease continues to spread, awareness and testing become increasingly important, even outside historically endemic regions.

🌵 Coccidioides Quantitative EIA: Measure What Matters

When diagnosing or monitoring Valley Fever, the Coccidioides Quantitative Antigen EIA provides measurable insight, not just detection.

✔️ Detects and quantifies antigen levels to support diagnosis
✔️ Helpful in seronegative or complex cases
✔️ Useful for tracking treatment response and relapse

In challenging cases, having quantitative data can guide clearer clinical decisions.

🫁 Pulmonary Fungal PCR Panel: One Sample, Multiple Answers

When respiratory cases don’t point to a single pathogen, MiraVista’s Pulmonary Fungal Pathogen PCR Panel can help you quickly narrow the diagnosis.

✔️ Detects Histoplasma, Blastomyces, Coccidioides, and Pneumocystis from a single BAL sample
✔️ High sensitivity and specificity for confident results
✔️ Supports faster, targeted treatment decisions

In complex pulmonary cases, multiplex PCR brings clarity fast.

Phoenix-area residents are now in the peak months for Valley fever infection, and new federal data confirm the threat is worse than ever. A landmark study has confirmed that Valley Fever has approximately doubled in incidence across Arizona between 2005 and 2022, while the disease continues to expand beyond its traditional endemic regions.

Early testing is important now more than ever. Valley Fever has a severe misdiagnosis problem, with some studies suggesting that the true number of cases may be 10 to 18 times higher than official reports.

🌵 Valley Fever Testing: Don’t Mistake It for Pneumonia

Coccidioidomycosis (Valley Fever) is often misdiagnosed because of overlapping respiratory symptoms, but accurate testing is key to getting it right.

✔️ Caused by Coccidioides in soil from the Southwest
✔️ Symptoms can mimic flu or pneumonia (cough, fever, fatigue)
✔️ Many cases go undetected without targeted fungal testing

Early, specific diagnostics improve outcomes, especially in patients with travel or exposure history.

Valley Fever is significantly underreported: surveillance captures only 1 in 6 cases in high-endemic states, 1 in 27 in low-endemic states, and 1 in 123 in nonendemic states.

Meanwhile, 80% of Valley Fever patients receive unnecessary antibiotics before the correct diagnosis is made, putting patients at unnecessary risk of disease progression, development of severe complications, and potentially death.

This study highlights the importance of early testing and appropriate management, especially as Valley Fever is expanding beyond its traditional endemic regions in the Southwest.

⏱️ "80% of people with Valley Fever don’t get the correct diagnosis until a median of 23 days after their first clinical contact, if they even get tested," according to Adyomidamope Adebiyi, family nurse practitioner and clinical lead at UC Merced's Occupational Health Services Department.

That's more than three weeks between a patient's first medical visit and a confirmed diagnosis. During that time, patients may receive unnecessary antibiotics and lose time at work.

A recent study outlines a structured approach to help frontline providers identify the disease earlier by moving from a "treat first, test later" mindset to "evaluate exposure, test early, and manage deliberately" - a step researchers say could significantly improving patient outcomes.

🧪 Cryptococcus Testing: Fast Answers When It Matters Most

Cryptococcosis can present with respiratory, neurologic, or skin signs, but confirmation requires targeted testing.

✔️ Latex agglutination detects cryptococcal antigen in serum or CSF
✔️ Supports both diagnosis and treatment monitoring
✔️ Results in as little as 12–24 hours

When clinical signs point in multiple directions, rapid antigen detection helps you move forward with confidence.
