Entropy. Usually, it’s a physics or chemistry term, right? But lately, I’ve been thinking about it in a psychological sense—especially when it comes to social media use.

It seems to me that social media introduces a kind of chaos into our inner world. Focus gets derailed, attention is pulled in many directions, and clarity can dissolve. Perhaps this is one reason so many people feel that social media takes a toll on their mental health.

What do you notice in yourself when you take a step back from social media?

Labor Day reminds me of something we all need—but often neglect: rest.
In a world that glorifies busyness, true rest can feel like a luxury. But real, restorative rest isn’t just a break—it’s a psychological and spiritual necessity.

Today, I invite you to pause and give yourself permission to recharge. Here are a few ideas to help you truly rest:

- Read a book simply for pleasure
- Spend time with people who fill your tank
- Take a walk somewhere new and notice the beauty around you
- Spend time in prayer

What might you gain from choosing rest today?

We need relationships that show us who we really are. It is often difficult to appreciate, but as social creatures we are constantly defining ourselves by the nature of our relationships. Who do others say that I am? Why do some treat me with kindness and others with disrespect? What does that say about who I am? Our unconscious minds, especially in early childhood, are constantly asking these questions, for better or for worse. That is why, in a world of broken relationships, our relationship with God is so important. When other relationships call us falsehoods, God calls us dignified, loved, and forgiven.

I've been reflecting on my previous posts about healing from difficult relationships. I use the word "healing", but I fear that word indicates that it all happened in the past. The reality is that most people are going through a difficult relationship NOW and it isn't something that is uncomplicated to leave. This is where boundaries come in. They need to be savvy boundaries that are robust. And remember, a boundary needs an enforcer, and oftentimes that enforcer must be you.

One of the focuses of my work is helping those who are impacted by a difficult relationship. From a psychological and spiritual perspective, relationships teach us about who we are. That is why repeated encounters with pathological narcissism, instability, and the like are so disheartening. We begin believing lies about ourselves because of these relationships. The path to healing is held in those corrective relationships that show us who we truly are. Loved. Dignified. And worth the sacrifice.
