August is National Breastfeeding Month, and the 2026 theme is RISE: Resilience, Interdependence, Self-Determination, Empowerment.
The U.S. Breastfeeding Committee created this yearâs theme to reflect the heart and strength of the First Food field and the continued work needed to advance policies, systems, and environments that make breastfeeding support accessible to every family.
At Centers of Wellness for Urban Women (CWUW), we believe women deserve the information, resources, encouragement, and freedom to make informed decisions about feeding their babies. Supporting breastfeeding also means addressing the real conditions that can make it difficult, including access to knowledgeable care, workplace accommodations, family and community support, economic barriers, and racial inequities in maternal and infant health.
Through our Whole Health approach, CWUW supports women before, during, and after pregnancy by connecting them to healthcare, community resources, education, and supportive services.
This month, we celebrate the women who breastfeed, the families who support them, and the communities working to make breastfeeding support equitable and accessible.
When women RISE, families and communities rise with them.
