Jeff's Transplant Journey I will posting updates on this page as my transplant journey begins.

After returning from a quick two mile run, I have a moment to sit and reflect on how much my life has changed in just 2 short years. Today marks my two year anniversary of my life saving transplant, it brings tears to my eyes. Two years ago I was unable to make it through the day without several naps and still was exhausted. Although I do not know anything about my donor I keep him and his family in my thoughts and prayers daily. I am reminded everyday the sacrifice he had to make when I take my medication, words can express how I feel. My doctor says everything looks great except I could lose some weight but doesn’t everyone approaching 50 hear that. Thank all of you for the thoughts and prayers over the last several years. Thanks everyone who has chosen to check the box to be a donor, it is greatly appreciated but there is room for more. Be sure to spread the word. and be sure to visit

I can not believe it has been one year since I received my transplant. Time sure flies. I can't express my thanks to the entire staff at IU Health for everything they have done for me and continue to do everyday. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. A very special thank you to Jehane Vandermark for being there every step of the way. I love you 😘.I will see my doctor in September for my one year checkup and if all goes well will only see him annually. So grateful and truly blessed. Thank you all.

I can't believe how quickly the last 6 months have passed. I have not had much to post as all is going well. Just had my 6 month checkup and doctor feels all is going well and the recent hiccup in my numbers was probably caused by the flu. I can not express my gratitude for all the thoughts and prayers over the last several years for all of you. I wanted to share a personal story of faith. On July 11,2016, I patiently waited for Dr. Lacerda to enter the room to review my progress but had no clue this would happen. Dr Lacerda entered and gave me great praise for doing so well and doing everything as instructed. He went on to say that the hospital was preforming more transplants than any previous year. He then when on to explain that the previous procedures they performed had eliminated many of the complications I had experienced and that my labs had been steady for 6 months now. I felt pretty good at this point ....... then he said " I think I am going to dicuss with the transplant committee tomorrow about placing you on the inactive list" WHAT????. He went on to explain that he felt bad having me handcuffed to staying in the Indy area and this would allow me more freedom (travel more than 3 hours away from the hospital and not have my phone on 24/7). My heart sunk... He said it would only be a discussion at this point and then he would make the final decision based on their guidance. Sheri (my coordinator) would let me know what was decided. After two days of not hearing anything I decided to call Sheri. Her voicemail stated she would be out of the office until Monday which made me even more anxious. I sent her an email Monday asking for an update. I knew she would be busy and may not respond right away. The following morning she sent me an email, she stated she would let me know what was discussed and any action taken after the committee meeting that day. On Wednesday, now 10 days after my initial visit, she notified me that Dr Lacerda had decided not to discuss it with the committee and wait another month or two. It had been a long 10 days of uncertainty. I don't know what made Dr Lacerda change his mind but was thankful he did. Little did I fully understand what was at work. Friday we decided to go with some friends to a campground about an hour and half away. After a nice evening of cooking out, a swim in the pool and a couple of hours of some intense cards my phone rings. 12:43am just getting ready for bed. 3-1-7-9-4-8 Why is the hospital calling me this late? Mr. Osler? Yes..... We have a potential donor match we need to you to come to the hospital. I was the third potential match and it was a positive match!!!!!!!! I knew it was God's plan and his will for that day. "With God all things are possible". I look forward to what he has planned for me now. God Bless and please share.

Happy Thanksgiving. So much to be thankful for this year: the amazing medical team at IU Health, my family and friends for all the support and prayers, the donor and his decision to become a donor, and God for his blessings. So very grateful and thankful although it comes with a heavy heart for the donors family. I pray for strength for them during this holiday season.

I needed to post an update and today I feel is a very appropriate day, my birthday. It's way more than just a birthday, it's just the beginning of a new time for me. I am truly grateful and blessed by God. My liver function has improved dramatically in the last several weeks by adjusting my medication. The doctors continue to make adjustments and monitor my progress. I have gone from having to see the doctor twice a week to once every other week and labs only once a week. A lot has changed in the last two weeks for me and I look forward to the future. I can't thank you enough for your thoughts, prayers and continued support. I have one thing to ask please share my page and if you are not already one become an organ donor.

Most recent update. Thank you all for the continued prayers.

Most recent update. Thank you all for the continued prayers.

It's hard to believe it's been 3 weeks since my transplant. Monday they performed a liver biopsy to check on possible signs of rejection. They decided to play it safe and treat me with 3 days of steroids to fight off the rejection. My last treatment was Thursday and my numbers had improved but still keeping a close eye on liver function. Will go back on Monday for additional blood test and will start removing half of the 70 plus staples from my stomach. Thank you all for the continued prayers.

Update on Jeffrey William Osler-He got to come home Monday even though his liver numbers weren't where they wanted them. Upon release they scheduled him for another ERCP(scope)today to check the stint they put in the bile duct to the liver. While the stint is functioning properly his numbers are getting worse. They admitted him and will biopsy the liver tomorrow to see if he is having acute rejection. Hopefully, if that is the case, they can tweak his meds and get him going in the right direction. Continued prayers are appreciated🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
