The ABC Recovery Center encompasses a seven-acre campus, one block long, occupying both sides of a tranquil street in a suburban neighborhood in Indio, California. ABC Recovery Center Campus
One side includes a Sub-Acute Detox facility, a Men's Residence, a Women's residence, a Dining Hall, a laundry facility, a Men's Dormitory and a one-story two suite accommodation for men. The other side includes a 10 bungalow Transitional Living Village, with private rooms, patios and a fountain; The McGovern House, a six room facility with private playground for new mothers & their children; a Sober Living Village with 12 units featuring kitchenettes along with an Outpatient Center and the Administration Building/Community Center.

We honor and remember the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military, making the ultimate sacrifice for all of us.

But let’s also remember our military members who come back from combat, forever changed. It is estimated that between 37 and 50 percent of Afghanistan and Iraq War veterans have been diagnosed with a mental health disorder.

These conditions are strongly associated with substance use disorders (SUDs), as are other problems experienced by returning military personnel. The onset of SUDs can also emerge secondary to other mental health problems associated with reentry to civilian life such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression.

Our troops deserve the very best care possible.

Connection is the key.

What is the opposite of addiction? Connection.

Do you want to have a good day, an impactful life, a meaningful career? Yup. Connection.

At ABC Recovery Center, we see it every day. Someone walks through our doors alone, overwhelmed, and convinced they're out of options. Then something shifts. A conversation in group. A moment of laughter with a peer. A phone call they weren't expecting. Connection starts doing what it does — reminding people they matter.

This entire country was built on coming together when times are tough. But these days, we're so overloaded with information designed to disconnect us that we don't even notice it happening. Or, worse, we do — and we give into it anyway.

Here's what we've learned from more than 60 years of helping people recover: thoughts aren't things until we give them energy.
We all have millions of thoughts a day. Recovery teaches us we can pick the good ones and let the rest fall by the wayside. We can wake up with the same thought every morning and still choose to give our power to something better.

If you or someone you love feels powerless today, start small. Smile at someone. Ask how they're doing — and wait for a response. Pick up the phone and call someone you haven't talked to in a while. Leave them a nice voicemail. Connection doesn't require a grand gesture. It just requires showing up.

The greatest thing about connection as currency is that it works nothing like the transactional kind. Give, expecting nothing in return, and you'll be richer than you ever imagined.

That's the work we do. That's the work we believe in. 💙

On April 30th, we welcomed Leadership Coachella Valley's Class of 2026 and their guests to ABC Recovery Center for a special event celebrating our new partnership — and with our grand opening on the horizon, the energy was electric. ⚡
