Notice that two are connected to the thorax from the front, and three from the back.

Implications:
The anterior muscles are also accessory breathing muscles. Meaning that if you fix the arm against something stable, they will help expand the ribcage and make it easier to get air in your body.

The upper back is also intimately related to shoulder blade movement; Elevating the shoulder makes it easier to round the back. It’s also easier to rotate the upper back when the shoulder blade is elevated. Try it! Shrug upward when working on upper back mobility (even in daily life like wiping on the toilet).

And conversely, depressing the shoulder relates with keeping the back more stable and straight- it’s the reason that a cue for shoulders down and back also helps reinforce a person’s arch on bench press.

It’s easier to feel than to think through, so try it for yourself and share any insights you have!!!

FYI, I am on a study abroad (as chaperone) and not quite on my regular hours or content.

But also, 10 years ago, where I am now would have felt impossible. So I just want to remind you that change IS possible.

What could you see yourself doing and what is the thing holding you back from starting?

And thanks for hanging with me while I explore.

Usually when a meniscus tear is causing a problem people will feel clicking, catching and (when it’s worse), instability and/or buckling.

If you have a meniscus tear, it does not necessarily mean surgery and it should never mean the end of an active lifestyle. In fact, research has not shown that meniscus surgery is better than to non-operative care (especially in adults with arthritic knees).

Before you jump to any surgery, make sure you have worked with a fitness forward physio, focused on strength and range of motion, and most importantly, given your body adequate time and resources needed to heal.

In concert with we are excited to host a 1-day foot and ankle taping CEU workshop in Long Beach California, with an optional add-on of watching the US Women’s National Soccer team take on Brazil in a friendly match.

Given the fires, if we are able (too soon to know specifics), we will be adding an optional service component on April 5th before the game.

This course is only $300 if you register by February 28, soccer game not included (limited tickets with the group are available).

Register via link posted in our bio, story and highlights. I really hope to see you for this fun and unique CEU option.

There is not one right way to squat. But, there are definitely ways that won’t work with certain body structures.

There is a natural twist in the femur and some people have more and others have less. This affects foot angle. There are also variations in the angle between the femoral shaft and neck that can impact how close or far apart the feet should be.

In addition to femoral variations there are also variations in acetabulum and the trunk. So the moral of the story is be willing to try several things with your patient, and never assume there is one standard position.
