Too much sun exposure can cause skin and eye damage and increase your risk of some cancers. You can still enjoy your outdoor fun by staying in the shade when you can, especially during midday hours; wearing clothing that covers your arms and legs and a hat to protect your head, face and neck; wearing sunglasses that block UV rays to protect your eyes; and using sunscreen to help protect any exposed skin.

Our office is closed today in observance of the Fourth of July. We wish you a fun and safe holiday! Keep these safety tips in mind if you will be popping fireworks.

🎆Never allow young children to play with or ignite fireworks. Always have an adult supervise fireworks activities.
🎆Never place any part of your body directly over a fireworks device when lighting the fuse. Light one at a time and back up to a safe distance immediately. Never try to re-light or pick up fireworks that have not ignited fully.
🎆Never point or throw fireworks at another person. Never carry fireworks in a pocket or shoot them off in metal or glass containers.
🎆Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy in case of fire or other mishap. After fireworks complete their burning, douse the spent device with plenty of water from a bucket or hose before discarding it to prevent a trash fire.
🎆Make sure fireworks are legal in your area before buying or using them.

Making plans for the Fourth of July? Sparklers look fairly harmless when compared to other fireworks, but they account for one quarter of emergency room fireworks injuries.

Sparklers can reach temperatures above 1000 degrees Fahrenheit and can easily ignite children’s clothing, causing severe burns, scars or disfigurement.
Glow sticks are a fun and safe alternative way to fill the night with light!

Be mindful of the temperature and avoid being outside for prolonged periods of time, especially during peak temperature hours between 2-4 p.m. Water is the best way to stay hydrated. Drink more water than usual and don't wait until you're thirsty to drink more.

Adding water-dense foods to your diet can also be a source of hydration. Approximately 80% of hydration comes from liquids, while 20% comes from foods. Water-dense foods include celery, cucumbers, strawberries and watermelon.
