Mobility Danes of New England, Inc.

Mobility Danes of New England, Inc. Mobility Danes of New England, Inc. is a non-profit organization training Great Dane Service Dogs for mobility.

SDP’s main mission is to breed, raise, train, and donate certified service dogs to people who experience difficulty with their balance or mobility. These partnerships often help to enhance the recipient’s quality of life as they attain greater independence. Preference is given to military veterans, first responders and their families. Our second mission is to serve our local community. SDP’s farm

is a destination for all ages — from teens doing community service, to seniors in search of a meaningful task and social interaction, to military veterans (many with PTSD) who enjoy feeling useful and connected while doing farm chores. Our Road Show project of dogs and trainers visiting senior centers provides much-needed smiles and comfort.

Cricket’s adventurous morning of training included working in Costco, Trader Joe’s, Danvers Indoor Sports, and At Home. Along the way, she took advantage of impromptu training opportunities, like standing next to an idling eighteen wheeler with a flatbed trailer while they backed off a heavy piece of equipment which beeped loudly in reverse. Danvers Indoor Sports was hosting youth soccer and basketball camps, as well as volleyball practice drills. It was a cacophony of kids screaming, balls bouncing, whistles being blown, and tons of running.

At Home had an impressive Halloween display, which included both animatronics and giant inflatables. Cricket did an awesome job bravely posing with some very intimidating characters. She was so excited to get back home with Tracy and Bella, with whom she is staying while her foster family is on vacation.

Izzy was a celebrity at the Children's museum in Dover NH. She also went to the police department where we worked on her apprehension of the boys in blue, and helped an officer who is scared of dogs face his fear.

Poor man was covered in drool by the end but had a huge smile. Great work Izzy and Trainer Will!

Acorn was the perfect companion this morning at the optometrist. The visit entailed moving among four different exam rooms and stations, which were all pretty tight on space. Acorn did a great job backing into corners and out of the way, so the doctor and technician could move freely. He got many compliments for his calmness and maturity, but if only those people saw how crazy and excited he was back at his home when he realized he was going out training! He can definitely flip the switch from super play mode to serious work mode once the harness and vest are on.

Little Onyx isn’t so little anymore. She was achieving boredom today in Ogunquit Maine. Achieving boredom is an important part of their training so they learn to ignore their surroundings and focus on their recipient.

Pecan stopped by the train station in Newburyport with her trainer today. This is a great way to expose them to public transportation or even flying. Looks like she’s a pro.
