You don’t need anti-reflective (AR) coating for your glasses to work, but there are good optical reasons to add it.

Why AR coating matters:

Without AR coating, some of the light hitting a lens is reflected back instead of passing through. That can cause:

* Glare — especially from headlights, screens, and overhead lighting.

* Reduced light transmission — less light reaches your eye.

* Reflections visible to other people — they may see reflections on your lenses instead of your eyes.

* More noticeable reflections in photos/video — particularly with ring lights or studio lighting.

* Reduced contrast in situations with lots of stray light.

Why it’s especially useful with higher prescriptions

The higher the refractive index of a lens material, the more reflective the lens surface generally becomes. For example, a high-index lens can reflect significantly more light than a standard plastic lens.

That’s why AR is particularly useful with high-index lenses.

AR coating doesn’t make your prescription “stronger” or make the lens itself optically clearer in the sense of changing its refractive power. It primarily reduces surface reflections and increases light transmission.

AR coating isn’t just about making your glasses look better. It’s about reducing unwanted reflections so more useful light gets through the lens.✨

Opticians Aren’t Salespeople.

We sell eyewear, but our job is so much bigger than selling a pair of glasses.

An optician takes a prescription and turns it into something a person can actually wear, see through, and live with.

We consider things like:

👓 Prescription power
📐 Frame measurements
👁️ PD and optical centering
🔬 Lens material and design
📏 Fitting height and measurements
🪞 Frame shape and how it fits the wearer
⚙️ Adjustments and final inspection
💡 How the patient actually uses their glasses

And yes, we may recommend a particular lens or frame.

But there is a difference between selling and dispensing.

A good optician isn’t thinking:

“How much can I get this person to spend?”

We’re thinking:

“What combination of frame, lenses, measurements, and adjustments will work best for this person?”

Because a pair of glasses can look beautiful on the shelf and still be completely wrong for the wearer.

That’s why optical knowledge matters.

We’re not just putting a prescription into a frame.

We’re applying optics, measurements, geometry, materials, anatomy, and craftsmanship to create a finished visual device.
