With the spread of cyclosporiasis causing GI upset and diarrhea, you may wondering how you can eat healthy and still keep yourself and your family safe. Here are some good general food safety tips to keep in mind:

-Wash your hands with soap and water before preparing food
-Wash all fruits and vegetables thoroughly under running water
-Wash cutting boards, dishes, utensils and counter tops with soap and hot water

In the past, cyclosporiasis outbreaks have been linked to bagged salad mixes and kits, fresh cilantro, fresh basil, raspberries, snow peas and green onions. To reduce risk of exposure, consider cooking food to at least 158 degrees Fahrenheit before eating. And of course, contact your provider if you have any questions or concerns.

We were so excited to welcome the largest group of students ever at Camp 911 in Norway! About 67 students in fifth and sixth grade learned how to stay safe and handle emergencies.

They had sessions on topics like calling 911; learning ATV, gun, and bike safety; performing CPR; how to stop bleeding and handle sports injuries; and what to do if lost in the woods. They also received instruction on choking and airway assessments and recognizing allergic reactions.

Thank you to Michigan State Police, Norway Police Department, Dickinson County Sheriff's Department, the Dickinson County Dive Team, the Norway Volunteer Fire Department, the Breitung Township Fire Department, North Alert Ambulance and Integrity EMS for their partnership on Camp 911. We already feel safer having these young leaders out in the community!
