For Jordan Magyar, nursing is personal.

After losing his father to pancreatic cancer, Jordan was inspired to pursue a career in oncology, helping patients and families navigate some of life's most challenging moments with compassion and understanding.

Today, as an infusion nurse at City of Hope Orange County, Jordan cares for patients undergoing treatment while carrying forward the same support his own family once received.

His path to City of Hope was shaped by a patient he cared for years ago at another organization who shared how CAR T cell therapy at City of Hope had cured his lymphoma. Inspired by that story, City of Hope's groundbreaking research and the life-changing outcomes he saw in patients, Jordan knew he wanted to be part of an organization at the forefront of cancer care.

Years later, that same patient returned for treatment and was once again assigned to Jordan's care.

"I got to tell him that his story was the reason I ended up working at City of Hope."

Today, Jordan is proud to be part of a team advancing cancer research, delivering innovative treatments and making a difference for patients and families every day.

At 29, Kommah McDowell was diagnosed with triple-negative inflammatory breast cancer and given a 5% chance of survival. She was also told she would never have children.

Looking for a second opinion, she turned to City of Hope.

More than 19 years later, Kommah is a wife, mother, author and advocate who continues to receive her care through City of Hope Orange County.

"I was part of the team. I wasn't just a patient. I wasn't just a number."

While training for marathons at 30 years old, Jacqueline “Jackie” Solano discovered a lump she assumed was benign. She had no family history of breast cancer and considered herself healthy and active. Instead, she was diagnosed with stage 2B invasive ductal breast cancer.

What followed was chemotherapy, a double mastectomy with reconstruction and Herceptin therapy. Throughout treatment, Jackie kept running, leaning on the support of her City of Hope care team, family and running community.

Today, nearly 10 years later, Jackie has no evidence of disease and has come full circle. She now works as a Patient Office Representative at City of Hope Lancaster, helping patients feel supported from the moment they walk through the door.

Right now, there are more than 4.3 million breast cancer survivors living in the U.S., and many continue to navigate physical, emotional, financial and social challenges long after treatment ends.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, City of Hope is highlighting the growing importance of survivorship care and honoring the survivors who are sharing their stories to create community, inspire hope and help others live well after diagnosis.

For Nik Kirkwood, the lobby at City of Hope Orange County is more than an entryway. It's often the first moment a patient feels either welcomed or overwhelmed, and Nik has made it his mission to ensure it's the former.

Nik joined us in 2023 and is now our Lead Lobby Ambassador. His path here wasn't a straight line. Like many people, he tried different opportunities before discovering that helping others was the most rewarding work he could do. That discovery led him to City of Hope Orange County, where he's found a place to put those strengths to use.

Our mission is personal for Nik. Watching his mother and aunt face cancer taught him just how much compassionate care means for patients and the families beside them. That's why he shows up every day: because he knows that even the smallest act of kindness can make a meaningful difference in someone's journey, and he understands firsthand how important it is to feel supported, cared for, and welcomed.

Every MRI tells a story, and behind every scan is a team dedicated to compassionate care.

Meet Alvin Pangilinan, Lead MRI Technologist at City of Hope Orange County.

Inspired by his mother's ovarian cancer journey and the care she received, Alvin chose a career in health care to help others through moments of uncertainty. Today, he helps ensure patients feel safe and supported while providing the imaging that plays an important role in diagnosis, treatment planning and ongoing care.

"Every day, I'm reminded that behind every MRI exam is a person and a family facing uncertainty. It's incredibly rewarding to know that the images we produce play a critical role in diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing care."

Before Tiffany Jones ever set foot at City of Hope Orange County, she was showing up for people during some of the hardest moments of their lives.

At a local nonprofit, she supported individuals experiencing homelessness, severe mental illness and substance use disorders. That work planted something in her: a belief that people deserve to feel seen and supported, no matter what they’re facing.

Since joining us in November 2025 as a Patient Resources Coordinator, Tiffany has helped carry forward our mission to provide compassionate care. She was drawn to City of Hope because we treat the whole person, not just the disease, and that philosophy is what keeps her here.

When asked what success looks like in her role, Tiffany said it's the moments when a patient walks away feeling less overwhelmed and more confident about what comes next. It’s a quiet kind of impact, but one she shows up for every day.
