Same workouts. Same meals. Same discipline. But somehow the scale keeps climbing anyway.
Here's what's actually happening: as estrogen shifts in perimenopause, your body becomes more insulin resistant (so it stores fat more easily, especially around your belly) while muscle disappears faster (which slows your metabolism even more). The exact habits that worked in your 30s stop working — not because you're doing something wrong, but because the rules changed.
And "eat less, move more" isn't just unhelpful here. Pushing an already-stressed body harder can raise cortisol, burn more muscle, and make you hold onto fat even tighter.
What actually works: understanding your metabolism, insulin, and hormones instead of guessing. Protecting muscle instead of starving it. Treating hormones and metabolism together, because they drive each other — sometimes with GLPs, sometimes hormones, sometimes both, as tools used thoughtfully by someone who knows your whole picture.
Most menopause care stops at hormones. Most weight care ignores them. I do both.
Save this for the next time someone tells you to just eat less and move more. Then take our free 2-minute quiz to find out what's actually driving your changes.

"Eat less, move more" doesn't just fail in perimenopause — it backfires.
So many women I’m seeing are doing everything the same way they always have, or maybe working even harder, and yet nothing is changing, except the scale keeps creeping up. If this is you, and you don’t understand what is happening, I can help.
Listen to this video and then take our 2 min quiz to find out if perimenopause is affecting you, and if its wrecking your metabolism.

The bloodwork isn't lying. It's answering a different question.

Perimenopause hormones don't hold still. Levels that swing week to week can look fine on the one morning your blood was drawn. Normal on paper, upside down in real life. Both at once.

But the sleep debt, the short fuse, the words that keep slipping. That pattern is data your labs can't see.

“It’s probably just stress.”
If you’re in your 40s, you’ve likely heard that more than once — about the sleep that won’t come, the weight that won’t move, the mood that turned on you, the fog you can’t think through. And maybe some of it is stress. But a lot of what gets blamed on a busy life is actually perimenopause, which can begin up to ten years before your last period and rarely announces itself with a textbook hot flash.
The problem with the “just stress” label is that it sends you to the wrong fix. Stress management won’t correct a hormone shift. The right medical treatment can.
I treat perimenopause at the root — hormones, sleep, mood, and metabolism together — with a plan built around your body instead of a shrug and a “try to slow down.”

At some point the question stops being what's wrong and becomes what to do about it.

That question is where the research spiral starts.

You're weighing patches against pills, wondering whether you need labs first, and every thread you read is certain of something different.

You know more than you ever have, and somehow you feel further from an answer.

And the truth is, more reading can't settle it, because the right next step depends on your history and your symptoms, not on the loudest voice in the thread.

Information isn't a plan.

A plan starts from your pattern, which means getting your symptoms out of your head and into one place.

That's what our free Perimenopause Symptom Checker does.

It turns what you've been noticing into one clear picture you can bring to any doctor you choose.

You went in because something was wrong. You left with a shrug.

Each one explains away one symptom. None of them explains the whole pattern.

Perimenopause can start in your early 40s. Sometimes sooner.

You used to run circles around your to-do list. Now you walk into a room and forget why.

Phone in your hand the whole time.

It's not you losing your edge. Brain fog is chemistry, not character. The rage over small things isn't you being difficult. The weight gain isn't a willpower problem.

This all has a name: perimenopause. And it's not a personal failure.

💛 Tag the woman who needs to read that today.

You've found a separate explanation for every one of these.

The sleep is stress. The weight is age. The fog is a bad week.

Seen side by side, they stop looking random. They start looking like one pattern.

You do not need to wait for a specific birthday or until you completely stop having a menstrual cycle to start treatment for perimenopause. Anyone who says you do is not following the evidence. The average age of menopause is 52 - its just an anniversary - 1 year without a period - but the symptoms start up to 10 years before that. So if you are anywhere from your late 30s through your early 50s, and you're experiencing a change in the frequency or quality of your cycles, and you have new symptoms you haven't had before, such as brain fog, joint pain, weight gain, food cravings, mood swings, increased irritability/rage, insomnia, loss of libido or pain with s*x, and of course hot flashes, you may be a candidate for menopause hormone therapy. The quality of life benefits speak for themselves, but you may not know they are also protective against heart disease and osteoporosis.
If you want to learn more, or want to start your journey, you deserve a real partner who can treat all the aspects that come along with this phase of life, not a 10 min visit. You're not broken and you CAN feel better.
