Here we go ... Time to start training for the 108 Sun Salutations at the Ithaca Reggae Fest! The goal: 12 Sun Salutations a day until June 27th at 10am. Below is the sequence for one Sun Salutation. 12 postures, 12 times. And on the day of, we repeat the cycle 9 times. That makes it sound more manageable, right?
While practicing, try to find a quiet space. Turn off your phone. Set an intention to tune into the space around you. The Sun Salutations are more than just a physical practice. They are also an opportunity for prayer, for connecting our minds and hearts to the great power of the universe, the Creator, whatever you care to name your god(s). And an opportunity for us to commit to something that calls us to connect to that power, to dedicate ourselves to the greater good.
The Ithaca Reggae Fest is dedicated to the protection of Cayuga Lake. Cayuga Lake is part of the Great Lakes Watershed which contains 21% of the Earth’s fresh drinking water. Say what? What happens to these lakes affects the world. We can use our practice of Yoga to re-establish our connection to Mother Nature and to pledge to establish a positive relationship in which she takes care of us, and we take care of her. I call it Yoga for the Earth.
We hope to see you there. And remember: You don’t have to do all 108 Sun Salutations when the time comes. Showing up and being in community is just as important, and it’s a great way to get into the flow of the Reggae Fest that will be have already started the night before. More details on their website of course!
